My son is now 2 months old. He was having problems with his stomach with the formula he was on (Enfamil Premium Lipil) so we switched him to the Gentlease which is suppose to be for fussiness & gas. He is still having some of the same problems including spitting up every time he burps & even sometimes just randomly an hour or so after he eats. So our Pediatrician had me put him on Enfamil Prosobee for sensitive tummy. I still have 5 cans of the powdered Gentlease & don't want it to go to waste seeing that formula is so expensive. So I was wondering if I can give him both. Right now he is on the liquid & when we are out & about it is not easy to just heat up a bottle in the middle of the store where as the powder you can mix right then & there. So if I was to use the Gentlease when we are out & use the Prosobee when we are at home would that be ok??

What can I do next?

Those are two different formula types. Gentlease has the milk protein broken down so it is easier to digest. Prosobee is soy so it has no milk protein in it. He may be having trouble with the milk protein and being on soy can help him out. Did you keep the reciept for your formula? Some stores will let you return/swap them as long as they are not open. I would just stick with the soy and see if you can return the Gentlease. Good luck.

I would not mix them. I'd go drop the cans off at a shelter. I think if you go back and forth you will not be able to tell if the prosobee is helping with his tummy issue.

edited: although I breastfed my children I know there are several reasons that woman do not. Please do not get offended by those on here that try to shove breastfeeding down your throat.

I wouldn't mix them either, as others have stated. It's really harder on their tummies that way and the tummy issues are what you are trying to fix. I'm assuming you have already tried medicine for reflux? If not, you might try keeping him on the Gentlease but giving him prescription reflux meds to see if that helps. I had two kids on reflux meds (and mylicon drops for gas) to ease the burn of the milk coming back up due to an immature flap, not because they were allergic to milk based formula. It took about a week to take affect but was so worth it for us in the long run.

Babies magic tea is an organic herbal solution for all tummy related issues in babies. Mix one oz tea in 8oz formula and feed your baby twice. It'll make a difference.

I'd hang onto the cans. When your son is a little older (8-9 months), he will have a less sensitive tummy and I don't think it will be a problem. not sure I'd mix right now, though.

My babies have all been spitter-uppers! My first born would spit up from one feeding all the way to the next! This was normal for her. Our Ped. said that unless I wanted to put her on Prilosec at 2-3 mos old, that this was the way it was going to be. It went away by the time she was a year old. We tried different formulas, and mixed them, and nothing helped the spitting up. There shouldn't be a problem with you using the different formulas at the same time. It may just be the way your little guy's system is for now, that he spits up. Just get a lot of burp cloths and bibs :) ! (Believe me, I HATED the spitting up, but now by #3, I am unphased by it!)

I wouldn't do it. I hear you about the expensiveness of the formula but honestly it will just mess with him. We also had to change my son's formula a few times and each time he got constipated and his body changed a little bit...nothing bad, he just had to get used to the new formula but it can be hard on their little sytems. I think you'll need to stick with it and hopefull you won't have to change again! Where did you buy the formula? You can probably return it. I had to do that a few times...I think the store is required to throw it out, which is super heartbreaking and wasteful...BUT you need that $50! If you don't want to do that consider donating it to a food pantry or womens' shelter but I wouldn't use both!

To me I would not use the Gentlease at all as it makes your son sick. Why would you want to make him uncomfortable just because you have 5 cans left? I don't mean to be harsh on you mom, but you just don't do that to your baby on purpose. I know they are expensive and I know everyone is tight on money right now, but like another poster said put them away and try in another couple months. Keep them in a dry cool place so they won't get too hot. And when your son is alittle older try again, but don't ever give you son something that will make him sick on purpose just because you spent money and don't want to waste that money. Again sorry for being harsh, but I had to speak the truth. Good luck with your son.
