Formula/Allergic Reaction To

my daughter was a breast fed baby since birth. when she was 3 months old I needed to have a test done which required injecting dye into my blood stream and so she was going to have to be given formula for a few days until the dye left my system. She had Similac Advance and she screamed hysterical, cried for hours, had small red bumps on her skin, and clearly had a very hard time digesting. As with most formulas, depending on the child, they can be very very hard to digest. While the masses will have you think that there is nothing wrong with feeding our children formula, our children sometimes show us other wise. If you have to feed your child formula then it is a trial and error until you find one that works, and even then you may have to switch to something else after a few months. Good luck.

My daughter had an illergic reaction to similac advance early shield formula. I wanted to wean at 6 months so we could have another baby close in age... I decided to keep breastfeeding until 9m b/c of the situation. It just made me realize that powdered formula is NOT the same as breastmilk. My daughter was up 3 nights in a row screaming. She is usually the happiest, easiest girl. It had nothing to do with teething. I know my daughter really well. So the end of 9 months came along and her tummy was able to handle enfamel for fussiness and gas. i called the company and it has cornsyrup solids as its main ingredient b/c some babies just cannot handle the cow milk protien... they can't digest it. My doctor said that formula can even cause colitus in infants b/c of that issue....

Well based on your statement you say she had an Allergic reaction. So this wasn't the result of " faulty formula"
Which would be expired, or contamination,etc.

You don't state what happened exactly so I am not certain if she went into shock,or developed a rash which is severe.
and in which case i would sugest reading the label and then have her tested for allergies, because eventually she will need to eat regular foods, and it would be good to know what she is allergic to before hand.

OR If you are saying she migh have a food sensitivity which would be diarreah, or vomiting.
In which case i would say she could very well grow out of it. And is a pretty common reaction in breastfed babies.
who are transitioning to formula or even foods.

Just for future reference, reading the labels on prepared foods is really important, The people who will administer foods to your child will need to know what she is allergic to in advance other wise she could have a repeat episode.
Which I am certain you will want to avoid.

What data were you looking for? Why would you think that they would disclose information to you based on your child's as you call it "allergic reaction". Of course it is probably not an isolated incident. Nowadays kids are allergic to so many things. My son couldn't tolerate it as he was waking up screaming every night, but was fine with it during the day. We changed to a soy formula. Guess what, after 5 months of this formula, he is starting to do the same. I am probably going to switch him back to a milk-based lactose free (the sensitive) and see if that helps. That is all you can do. You can't blame the company for an allergy.
