hi :) I have a 3 week old daughter who we are formula feeding. I am wondering if anyone has any good suggestions on how much to feed them when? Right now we have her on 3 ounces but were thinking about maybe taking her up to 3.5 or so.. We feed her every 3-4 hours and it seems like lately she is going 2.5-3 hrs. Thanks :)

What can I do next?

It can't hurt to try. The worst that happens (IME) is that she won't finish it all. But judging by the timeframes you have given, it sounds like time to go up!

When our son was that age he was eating 2oz every 2-3 hours sometimes three but never over that...sometimes a child can over eat but sometimes they are just hungry. I think you should try and just space the feeding times out a little more and she will be just content! I love content babies...lol...Like Kimberly said "can't hurt to try" I think every baby is different and has it own desires and will tell you when. Hope this helps!

if she's moving up her feeding schedule or if she's finishing every drop in the bottle....or if she seems fussy by the end of the bottle, then it's time to increase the amount.

fyi: both of my sons were big eaters. Following the drs instructions, both of them were taking 6-8oz with each bottle by the end of the 1st month. !! Even the nurse was surprised at how much they ate! With my nieces/nephews, it varied from 4-8oz which gave me a more normalized idea of how babies eat.

Hi, if your daughter is finishing her 3 oz bottle and getting hungry earlier, then up it a half an oz. I did that with my children and they did fine. Hope this helps.

I agree that it's time to give her more. I would give her a 4 oz bottle and see if she finishes it. If not, you could back it down a little to 3.5. A baby that young won't overeat, she'll quit when she's full.

I would move up to 3.5 or 4 ounces every 3-4 hours....sounds like it's time! They say a good rule is 2 to 2.5 ounces for every pound. So, my son is 12 lbs (6 weeks old) and he's eating usually 6 ounces every 4-4 1/2 hours.
