Formula for Gas, Reflux, Constipation in 11 Week Old

Hi all! I started my son on Enfamil Lipil, and changed to Earth's Best Organic because a friend recommended it. He is also on medicine for reflux, he started on Zantac which helped a lot, and now I'm trying Prilosec, but I think the Zantac works better so I'll probably put him back on that. I'm wondering if I should switch him to Nestle Good Start Gentle, because I've read some good things about it. It's supposed to be easier to digest which I think might help with his gas and constipation? I've been giving 1-2 oz. of prune juice daily but it's not really helping. What do you all think about the formula? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone. I'm trying the Good Start now so we'll see how it goes. The doctor recommended the prune juice.

Nutramigen worked wonders for my baby with reflux. It is not cheap but you can find it on ebay for almost half the price~

My daughter was on Good Start when she was a baby (also had reflux) and it worked well for us. I noticed she didn't spit up nearly as much. I personally wouldn't give him juice, especially if it doesn't seem to even be helping.

Good Luck!

The best one I've found for gas/constipation is Mom to Mom, a Safeway generic brand. I had a foster baby who had horrible gas on his Enfamil that he came with, I switched to the Mom to Mom brand and he was a different baby. I have many friends who swear by it also.

i don't think you should give your baby prune juice..did your doc say to do that? sometimes it can have the opposite affect and make baby more constipated..i used Good Start Supreme Comfort Proteins..for gas what worked the best was Hylands colic tablets...sounds odd but it worked..for constipation i used child suppostitories..not too often but when things got rough..our doctor said "good mama" when i told her i used those..says they're harmless..i used zantac on my son but it didn't work and it was gross tasting..but i was mainly breastfeeding...but my son was 10.2 lbs and i wasn't producing enough milk to sustain him..and the Good Start Supreme comfort proteins was the only formula that didn't cause my son discomfort.

good luck

I don't think you should give juice to the baby who is only 11 weeks old. Please check with the doctor.

It is probably all the formula causing issues.

Try Gripe Water, it always worked well for my kids' gas.

I breastfed my daughter, but whatever I ate she got, so she would get these symptoms sometimes. I gave her Mylicon drops. They worked like a charm and always made her feel better.

Most drugs and formulas are acidic. If his body was more alkaline, the symptoms might begin to subside. Almond is the nut that is the most alkaline and makes a wonderful milk. The constipation and other symptoms might also reflect dehydration. Please "The body's Many Cries for Water, by Dr. Batmanjali. Fruits and vegetables are also alkaline and have a high water content; serving two purposes at once.

If you have breast milk, try to pump or nurse. That is the most natural way to help an infants digestion system. Soy formula is easier on the system if you can't do any breast milk, my first went on Soy formula after two months which seems to help with constipation. Also my peditrician told me that the reflux medicine takes away calcium after a while because I had two of my babys have that reflux problem. So try and ask for vitamins for him if he isn't on them while he is taking the reflux medicine. I hope this helps! Take care!

The Zantac and Prilosec are decreasing the acid in his stomach, thus not allowing him to break down his nutrients properly, leading to constipation.

I would start with PB8 and probiotic that works like a charm for all 3 of those. If it all doesn't help, you might consider making him a formula with goat's milk - super easy and there are recipes online without all of the junk in the regular formulas.

PS You might want to try Nutramigen. If none of the formulas work, try donated breastmilk and if that doesn't work, then you know it's the drugs causing more problems than the are fixing.

Also, I have had friends who took their babies off of the Zantac / prilosec and just started with 1-2 PB8 per day and all of the spitting up, etc went away.

First try Similac but I've heard that Good Start is really good. And if all else fails.. Nutragamen (but it's gross and he wont he eat it.. my daughter didn't so we stuck to SImilac).
And the prune juice.. you're baby is waaaay to young to be having juice! Did the doctor say it's ok???? That might be causing your problems as well because I dont' think you are supposed to give juice to babies younger than 6 months.. and that's light things like apple juice not prune juice. Check with your pediatrician right away.
