Recently we made the transition to whole milk and I forgot to ask the doctor, but do I still give her the same amount of milk as I would formula?

What can I do next?

My pediatrician said that 2-3 sippies a day of milk is great and water at this point is fine for any other time.

I've had varying advice about this. I've read 16-22 oz a day for 1 year olds; then a doc at my son's 15 month check up said less because the 20 oz he was drinking was too much fat intake, but I thought that was weird because he's only in the 5th percentile for weight- I'd been under the impression up to that point that we were trying to fatten him up. Personally, I think every kid is a little different and she will drink what she needs if it is offered. I'd give her as much as she will drink with meals. As your child gets more and more nutrients from food, she will rely less on milk, BUT milk is very important as it provides vital protiens and nutrients that a growing child needs. I would generally offer milk with meals and water otherwise. You can also give more cheese or other dairy products on days that they drink less milk. A little bit of juice everday is fine, but not needed if they are eating fruits and veggies ok.

I'm sure it is a similar amount. But by the time a baby is on milk, I just stop keeping track. I just offer them mostly milk & a little bit of water each day & let them drink as much as they want. Kids are very good at self-regulating. As long as there are still wet diapers and no signs of dehydration, they're fine.

I got told no when we had my daughter's 1 year appointment. She was drinking about 24 pounces of formula, our pediatrician said that 16 was enough milk for her, as solid food becomes the new nutition based. I'm not great at keeping track (no ounce markings on sippies!) but we just try to make sure she gets milks or water when she's thirsty, juice as a treat. =)

No. Two to three 4 or 6 oz cups of milk a day is enough. She doesn't need all those calories anymore. Water is the best to have in her cup all day to make sure she's not thirsty and then at mealtimes she can have milk and juice with a snack.

No Worries I did the same with my son and he is perfectly healthy. I added cereal to his formula and the same to his milk. He is a very hungry and growing boy. And it's a great transition for baby to toddler as well.
Enjoy!

We always just offered milk with meals and water the rest of the time. The only time we didn't do that was when DS had growth problems and needed to be on a high fat diet. Then we did milk all the time.

Yup. According to our ped, 24-28oz/day, same as formula. She said they wouldn't take all 24-28 oz at first, but eventually this is the goal.
