Hi moms,

I'm new at this, and we're moving soon, so I'm in a tizzy. I've heard that Fort Worth is going through some upheaval school-district wise, but my husband will be attending Med School there so we want to find the best living situation for us all, and best elementary school for my son. What are the best resources for figuring out the best elementary schools for your child? My son is 5 and going into kindergarten. Elemenary is our primary focus, as we expect to relocate before Junior High years.

If you know of any good elementary schools near UNT (TCOM Fort Worth on Camp Bowie Blvd.), I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

You might really research all the towns and cities around Ft. Worth. There are so many (Keller, Arlington, Mansfield, Hurst, Euless, etc) that have good schools. They are all within easy driving distance to Ft. Worth (depending on where in Ft. Worth). I personally would look at these other districts. Just my opinion.....

That puts you squarely in the cultural district (Momof3cre, she means the UNT Health Sciences center on Montogomery and Camp Bowie, not UNT in Denton). That's a great place to be and a great place to raise a kid. You'll be close to the museums, downtown, west 7th, Trinity Park, the zoo - all kinds of good stuff. However, FWISD is not the best. I'm in this area and we are set on private school. Worth the expense IMHO because I'm convinced that no ISD is really all that good....even the so called great ones are having their budgets cut big time and it's affecting the schools negatively.

If you are looking closer to UNT, it may be considered Fort Worth address wise but wont be FWISD. My child goes to FWISD and I am 1 hr from UNT. If you go 30 min NE from me, where my SIL lives, her mailing address is FW but it is Keller school district. Depending on how far you want to be from UNT, there are LOTS of other school districts that would be better than FWISD close to Denton.

We live in fort worth but not in FWISD. WE are in Eagle Mountain Saginaw school district and we have some excellent schools. I was diligent about finding a good school district when we moved her and were looking for a place to live. You can use sites like great schools to find out school info. The Texas school have ratings that you can look at too. Feel free to message me if you have any questions.

Hey there! Check out Keller ISD & NOrthwest ISD. Now it would be a commute for your husband but great schools. It would only be about 15 miles but with traffic and construction it could take 30 mins to an hour to get there. If you choose to live nearby your husbands school, your best bet is private school. Good luck & hope you love Fort Worth as much as I do!
