I have a friend who is pretty OCD, and she has been laid up for over a week with a shattered ankle. She is going crazy, and I would like to send her something that might keep her ocupied and perhaps be a little fun, too. She doesn't do Sudoku or anything like that, so puzzles and games are out. She doesn't read, so books are out, too. Does anyone have any ideas of something fun I can send her? She likes watching medical shows and forensic-type shows on TV, and she has cats. Thanks, ladies!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all the suggestions! She lives in NY and I live in Iowa, so I'm not able to go to her personally, but I got some great ideas from you guys and am going to send her a gift basket of goodies I think she'll love. Thanks again!

You've gotten great ideas for entertainment for her so far, but if she's OCD how about a cleaning service for a week? I was on bedrest for 5 months with my 2nd and that was the greatest gift ever. I didn't have to look at the dust bunnies floating around on the floors. :)

You could send her a stack of magazines and all the "stuff" to do a home manicure... lotion, file, buffer, couple of polishes, etc.

She may not be "into books", but bedrest can make you a reader (per several friends), so send her a couple of paperbacks too!

I second the Netflix subscription. There are TONS of shows available that stream instantly so you don't even have to worry about discs, etc. I recently started watching Bones and really enjoy it. There are 5 seasons with about 20 episodes per season! I hope you're friend is feeling better soon.

Are her cats playful? You could send her a bag of catnip and some cat toys to entice the cats to come to her. Best toys would be a feather on a string (so she can throw it out and pull them to her:) and/or a stick with a string and toy at the end (looks like a little fishing pole) or just a roll of yarn!
Rubix cube?
I spy book?
jewelry making kit?

Maybe some craft project that she might be interested in doing...something not too complicated...maybe some beginner cross stitch kit or scrap booking (You might have to help her round up the pictures since she is immobile).
How about a Netflix subscription??

I agree with the Netflix Subscription.. She can watch them on her computer and also get DVD's..

How about Books on CD.. "The Help" was one of the Cd's we listened to last summer. There were so many days we did not want to get out of the car! We would just drive around to listen to it..

Light weight magazines.. People, Us, Entertainment weekly Vanity Fair..

It may sound silly but what about hand held video games? If she has to be out of commission and has nothing to do, things like video games could keep her busy for hours. Maybe video's or phone apps on meditation to help her relax or a journal and fun pens. Does she draw or sketch, perhaps a drawing pad and pencils. Just random ideas :)

Needlepoint, crewel? Or rent/buy a season of one of the shows she likes or maybe something she hasn't seen? Many of the "classic" shows are are video now - multiple episodes on one DVD so she doesn't even have to change the disc. Go to the video store and ask them what they have in the classics area - those things often aren't displayed. I saw old episodes of "Quincy" and a few others last week at our video store. They aren't as high tech in terms of the techniques the police or medical examiners used, but they are often well written and have a good mystery at the center.
