I have a friend who is currently living in Colorado. She will be moving to Seattle in June. Her husband has just gotten a job there and he will be moving in a few weeks but she is wanting to stay in Colorado so her oldest can finish her senior year of high school.

I am not sure what side of town his job is going to be located on but I told her that I would try to reach out and see if I could help her get some information.

She is looking for affordable housing in a safe area(her husband has been unemployed for several months now and they have 5 or 6 children so money is extremely tight). and a decent (good preferably) school district. She has kids from gradeschool through high school.

Any ideas of where to look, or, just as important, where not to look, would be great. She is feeling very overwhelmed right now and I can't really do much to help but if I can at least help try to gather some information for her that would be great!

You moms are fabuous!!

Thanks!

Commuting in Seattle can EASILY be 2 hours each direction during 'rush hour' if you're living on the wrong side of the city from your work.

But if you'll touch base w your friend, we'll get you neighborhoods!!!

Once her husband is in Seattle he can go to a realtor, in the neighborhood in which he works, who will be able to answer this question. Many realtors are glad to provide information even tho they're not going to sell you a house.

The Seattle area is huge ~ it would really help to know where he will be working (not as in the company or anything, but location).

Yeah, too big of an area to narrow down without knowing where his job will be..commutes can be horrendous! If he works downtown or north of downtown, I'd look at Ballard, Wallingford, Ravenna, Bryant, laurelhurst, maple leaf, wedgewood, shoreline, mountlake terrace, Edmonds, bothell. If his job is downtown proper or by the airport, I'd look at west Seattle or Normandy park, or des Moines. South of downtown same three just listed and maybe federal way or browns point, maple valley, parts of auburn. Eastside, all are good, Bellevue is most affordable or bothell,Newcastle, woodinville . But all the eastside areas are nice, just more expensive. I'd personally avoid all areas not listed (unless I magically forgot a great area that's affordable!)
