Hello!
Our close friends our moving in a few weeks and I want to make a special
keepsake present for them. Their daughter was born 2 weeks after our daughter,
so they have been best friends for the past year! I wanted to make her a photo
book with pictures of the two girls with a poem or story about friends, however
I am getting stuck on the text. Anyone know any cute children's poems or stories that I could use!? Thanks in advance for any input!

M., there are lots of great quotes on friendship from winnie the pooh! when we got pregnant with our 2nd child i sent out announcements to my family with a photo of our son in his "big-brother-to-be" t-shirt. the card read "it's so much friendlier with two". that's just a short one, of course, but winnie the pooh is a great resource for all kinds of quotes. have fun!

You can do an acrostic with the child's name. That's personal and not too hard. Make one page for each letter, and put a brief quote about friendship on the page. Get some from Bartlett's quotations online.

Whatever you decide to give whether you buy it, copy it, or create it yourself you will NOT go wrong if you do it from the heart. I met my heart/soul sister/best friend in the world 4 months before my family had to move away. We were in a bible study together and realized that both of our infant sons had been born with heart problems. In a very short time we developed a very deep spiritual and emotional friendship. When I had to leave I bought her a card thanking God for our sons, for their hearts bringing us together, and for giving me the sister of my heart.

Our sons are 6 years old now. By the Grace of God I was given a miracle and my son is perfectly healthy, and only had a developemental delay in speech which has been corrected. Her son has a heart defect that we and the Doctors keep a very close check on. My contribution to her son's health is through prayer. In all respects her son is healthy he just can't play certain sports because of the defect, and will eventually require another surgery.

Time and distance has changed our friendship in that we can't be inseperable as we were for a brief time. Our connection however is still as strong and deep as ever.

So whatever you decide to do for your friend let it be from your heart. Let her know how much you care for her, and how much your friendship means to you.

I did something very similar for close friends that moved. We had pictures of her boys "meeting" my daughter at the hospital and then another of them walking hand in hand (picture was taken from behind the kids). I had them printed on a t-shirts with the front having the meeting picture with the words "Friends from the first day we met..." and on the back the other picture with the words "... and always." They looked really cute. Even if you can't come up with a poem, heartfelt words will do just fine. The book itself will be an awesome keepsake even without words.

M., if you want to tell me the little girls' names I will try to write an original poem or story for you. Tell me a little about each one, what they like to do together, any special antics, etc. ( My lifelong friend and I popped the ivories off my mother's piano with our teeth! My mom heard the popping and came in and stopped us. I don't remember how old we were but we had teeth!) My friend is 4 months older than I. She just turned 76 and she has moved many, many times and lived all over the world but we always stayed in touch. She married a good friend of mine so that makes it even nicer that when he retired from the Air Force, it was in the same city as us. For a while they lived 23 miles from us and now they are only six miles away. We can hardly believe our good fortune. I tell you this story with the hope that the two little girls and their moms and dads will stay in touch and enjoy a lifelong friendship. Here is my email address if you want me to give an original writing a try. By then I may think of other poems and stories.
