Front Facing Car Seat

My daughter will be one year in Oct, and she is already 20lbs. I need to start looking for a front facing car seat. I have looked at some and read the reviews but was wondering what other moms out there would recommend. I am not concern about the brand or price I want something that is safe and my baby will be comfortable in.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

S.,

I recently bought a new carseat for my daughter. I considered the Britax, but the size of the seat is what led me to do more research. I ended up purchasing the Sunshine Kids Radian 80 car seat for my daughter. It has a very high rating. Weight range is 5-80lbs. One of the few carseats that harness a child in up to 80lbs. The frame is made from steel so it is a bit heavy at 20lbs, but I didn't plan on lugging it around. But it the seat can fold up compactly and be carried if needed. It is also, only 17 inches wide so you can easily put more carseats in with out being crowded. My daughter seems to like her seat. I choose the SuperCool fabric because of the heat here and it lives up to its name. I purchased mine through Amazon for $250 w/o tax and free shipping.

Hi S., my daughter is 2 1/2 and when she was 9 months old we purchased the Britax Marathon for her, which can be rear and forward facing, it is obviously now forward facing and I LOVE it!! All of the Britax carseats are wonderful and are supposed to be the best and safest carseats out there. They are a bit pricey but worth every dime. My daughter loves this carseat and has never fussed when having to go in it. Hope this helps!

Hi S.~

First I just want to say that my son's pediatrician recommends facing rear up to two years old. My son is fourteen months and we still have him rear facing - he is 24 lbs. or so and I am going to see what she recommends at his 15-month check up... it will be nice to have him facing forward but I am very much for safety and any preventative measures I can take (even though I have to argue with my husband constantly about it).

We have two different car seats because it got so annoying switching back and forth. Are you using a convertible now? I can't imagine you are using an infant carrier with a 20 lb. baby... both of ours are convertibles - The Britax Marathon, which goes up to 65 lbs.

And the Maxi Cosi Priori which goes up to 40 lbs:

We really like both of them, but I would say the Britax Marathon is the better of the two (quite a bit more expensive though).

Hope this helps!

I too will be buying a forward facing car seat soon and the best kind that friends have told me and that I have researched seem to be the Britax. They are the safest on the market. I will be buying a Marathon which holds a child up to 65lbs and 6 years so it should last awhile. The MSRP is $280, but there is supposed to be a fall Britax sale starting Sept 15-21 where you could probably find one online for as low as $190. I have also been watching them on ebay and have already seen them on sale online for $220, but my goal is to pay $200! Good luck!

Both of our kids (now 2 1/2 and almost 4) have been in Britax Marathons since they were about 3 or 4 months old. They were both big babies so they couldn't stay in the carrier style very long. We have LOVED these seats and I recommend them all the time. They are easy to use and very comfortable for the kids. We travel a lot and the kids never complain about getting in their seats. They love them, too, which is saying a lot. They are also very safe. Good luck in your search!
