Hi moms! I can not for the life of me come up with a good birthday party idea for my DD. She's turning the big 13 and I want her to celebrate with friends in a fun way, but both her and I can't think of anything new and exciting to do. We can't really do outdoors because FEB. weather is so unpredictable. She's always had great parties so we feel like weve done it all, Ice skating, roller skating, sleepover at a hotel, tea party, gymnastics. Anything you did that your DD loved and had a great time? Thank you mom's so much for any help!!

What can I do next?

This year for my daughter's birthday, we took everyone to the movie theater (matinee prices), got a huge refillable popcorn to split between the guests (we brought paper lunch sacks), then went to pizza afterwards. Everyone had a great time (and it actually cost less than last year when I put together games, prizes and party favors!)

I AM THE QUEEN OF THEME!!!

How about a Night at the Oscars (this makes it an evening party).

Check out this web site (http://www.orientaltrading.com/) for balloons, party items lite champagne flutes (for sparkling cider) , plastic tableware.

Decor:

Outside use white Christmas lights & a red plastic tablecloth to create your runway.

Employ your girlfriends to help announce the actors & take pictures as they enter against a backdrop made using a refrigerator box, white satin sheets (I found at a second hand store) and film strip transparencies I created using an image of a black & white film strip I printed on transparent paper. I cut them, stapled them together & used them like steamers & as the invitations.

I had all guests come dressed as their favorite actor would as if it were Oscar night. This made it a bit formal but kids are on their best behavior when they are dressed accordingly ;-) We played games like movie & music trivia, etc. I had the kids cast ballots (also made using the film strip on card stock paper) for the best actor, best dressed, most likable actor, game winners, etc and handed out tiny Oscars (Oriental Trading).

I'm not one for social foods so I went to Costco & got those condiment bowls to put dips in so each kid would have their own; no colds thank you! . For appetizers I served veggie & fruit trays (fruit dip: plain yogurt & honey; kids love it!! ) The main course I made veggie lasagna rolls (mozzarella & ricotta cheese, fresh shredded spinach, alfredo sauce (bottom of pan) red sauce spooned across top to add color). Cook noodles as you would if you were making layered lasagna. Spread the filling onto each noodle roll and bake. This way portions are equal and they kids can serve themselves.

I went to the Dollar Tree & found a photo album in which I made a scrap book of the nights events for my daughter. I had all her guests autograph the pictures taken in front of the backdrop I made along with various snap shots taken throughout the evening. I also gave each guest a copy of the picture. My girlfriends helped me frame them during the party, again using the film strip transparencies as frames.

My daughter loved it as did her friends.

I hope this helps. If you need more ideas just drop me a line....

GMGB!!

When my daughter was 13, the most fun thing for her was going to the mall and having lunch with friends. We invited the amount of friends that could fit in our car which was 4 friends plus her. We went out to eat a her fav restaurant and then we hit the mall. I purchased all the girls a little something from Claire's and they loved it. Easiest birthday I have ever done!

What about a spa treatment and then lunch out? My mom did this for us when we all became teens... manicures and a ladies lunch! My parents invited a few friends and sat at another table, letting us have lunch "on our own", but still very much supervised.

My neighbor owns a nail salon, but also does nails on the side out of her home. The day before my wedding she invited me over with my mom and maids for a little pampering... wine, cheese and nails. It was such a treat and really didn't cost her much! You could ask around and see if anyone does nails from their home and then do something similar for your daughter.

how about a yoga party (http://www.miniyogis.com/birthday.htm)?
cool, hip, interactive partner activities. these are fun yoga poses and movements that the kids do with one or more partners. they have a great time playing around with each other. there are some generally cool/fun activities and some things that are more challenging and really engaging. but it’s all fun.
if she wants a theme, it can be anything she likes. it can be a movie or book she likes, a character, something she likes doing..anything. and mini yogis will come up with yoga activities that revolve around that theme. :)

Can you call party places and see if the rent out Rock Band video game and equipment? My GF gave her daughter a Batmitzva party and 5 Rock Band stations the kids went bizerk, they had so much fun. Otherwise, call the party places and see what they have for that age group. Spa sounds fun, a little pricey, how about a mani/pedi for everyone?

This is what we did last year.
It was a surprise. My SIL took her to get her nails and hair done. I had all her friends come over. We had a Hollywood theme. I had a red carpet and everything. So when she got home, she could walk in on the red carpet as if she was the 'star'. Then her friends all took pics of her entering like they were the papparazzi. It was fun and cute. The girls then listened to music and danced. We had cupcakes, sang happy birthday. Then some of the girls slept over.
My DD is turning 14 next week and now I am trying to figure out what to do this year as well!!!!

When my sister turned 15 we did "Chino Hills Next Top Model." We had 10 girls and my mom, older sister and I did all of the girls' hair and makeup. My sister collects old prom and wedding gowns from the thrift store so we let them choose an outfit or they could come in something of their own. We did a photo shoot (just a digital camera) and a runway contest. then we let the girls vote for one another. we let them eat pizza and watch a mivie/open presents while we printed their pics and made them all "winner" certificates. Each girl was given a title (most photogenic, best smile, best runway walk, etc) and one was crowned "top model." 3 of my sister's friends even did parties of their own like this later on. But maybe the dads didn't like it so much. Hehe. all of their little girls looked grown up.

I have not done this, but my son was just at an 8 yo birthday party at an indoor pool complex and they LOVED it! Just a thought.

Have you thought about a 'spa party' and have their nails done and maybe an updo for each girl?

Have fun!
