There is a big cat rescue park in Wylie. I've not been yet, but we are planning a trip very soon (maybe today). My good friend took her little girl a couple weeks ago and said they had a great time. http://www.insyncexotics.com/

The Arboretum is always fun.

Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park http://www.texasdiscoverygardens.org/

I took my little one to the Dallas Zoo last week and was VERY disappointed. Don't waste your money. The last time I was there was probably 7-8 years ago, but I remember it being much nicer. They do have a children's area that's fun, but not really worth it. But the Ft. Worth Zoo is great!

The flowers at the Dallas Arboretum are beautiful right now. We go every spring. They have things for children to enjoy as well...fountains, kid area, etc.

There is a fee to get in and I think to park but you can take in wagons and picnic supplies. There is a sandwich shop on premises as well.

The zoo is also fun.

Check the local listings for upcoming festivals. We love going to the festivals. There is one in early May in Richardson, the Wildflower festival in Richardson around Nortel in May (GREAT festival).

There is an event in Grapevine today. Spring into Nash Farm that is great for kids - we're thinking about taking our 2 year old. http://www.nashfarm.org

There are a number of farmers markets opening and storytimes at the library.

My daughter is 5, and she LOVES going to look at the flowers at the Arboretum! She loves it so much I had to get a membership! She keeps wanting to go all the time! :)

Ice skating? Roller skating? Walk along the water? Horse back riding?

My favorite things when I was little was when my Dad would take my sister and I to the local Horse stables and we would walk all around looking at all the horses. Eventually it progressed to horse back riding....

Also my mom used to make a huge hop-scotch in our driveway and pack us a lunch and we would all just hang out in the front yard all day...we loved that!

Here where I live we have a "Big Cat rescue"...it's like a little Zoo but its filled with only big cats: tigers, pumas, lions that were all house pets once upon a time....that place has been a pretty neat find.

The Dallas Botanical Gardens are beautiful. They are down by White Rock Lake. My kids loved running around the place.

Well, I'm not from Texas but here are the fun outside things we do: a local zoo (we LOVE the zoo), a petting zoo, botanical gardens, any state park or recreational area, canoe rental, hiking on local trails, dog park, dilly-dally walk (that means it's at our 3 year old's pace and we can't get mad if she meanders) around the neighborhood looking for treasures like acorns and spider webs, bird identification, Easter egg hunts (any time of year; she loves them), gardening (she loves to plant), playing in the kiddie pool, splash parks, municipal pools, nature centers, art festival, any art activity on a picnic table outside somewhere. Have fun!
