Ok ladies.....I am about 9 weeks pregnant and found out that I have gallstones. The doctor told me they can not do surgery on me until after the baby comes and for now i will have to be a low fat diet.....meaning I can not any fatty and spicy foods. If I do have any of that....I will have what they call an attack on my gall bladder. They gave me some pain killers in case I have another one but I have been watching very closely to what I have been eating.....and I am dying for a hamburger or some Mexican food. Has anyone out there experiences this when they were pregnant, if so what did you eat? It seems now I fall back on sweets and I am not a sweet tooth at all. It is so frustrating to have this when pregnant.

What can I do next?

Sorry to hear that. I dealt with the same thing, and it is not easy. I did find that I could have small amounts of ground sirloin (95% lean), and other very lean meats if I grilled or boiled them (yes, leave the seasoning off). Also, most seafood and fish varieties are a good alternative.

Have you asked your doctor about prilosec OTC or Prevacide (perscription). My OB and Gastro doc agreed that they were safe during pregnancy. Prevacide worked great for me, and I was able to keep things under control until after delivery :)

Best of wishes to you

ask for a second opinion. they should be able to perform a laprascopic procedure later in your second trimester or early in the third trimester. You could have a taco salad with lean beef or turkey (seasoned lightly of course). Good luck and congratulations.

SO Sorry! I had them too when I was pregnant and it was just the most awful pain I have ever felt! Worse than labor in my opinion! I stuck to fruits, vegetables, sandwiches with no mayo, salads with fat free dressing. But if you can't resist your cravings, have your pain killers handy! But also be careful with them! Good luck!

M.,

I understand what you are going through. I had problems with mine for about a year until i found out what was actually wrong with me. I had mine taken out this past August, I was about 2-4 weeks pregnant and did not know it. Since it was so early in my pregnancy the doctor did not detect it either. Luckily, there was no harm to our son. I feel for you, that past year was horrible. I lived off of Subway and Jason's Deli. I ate LOTS of sandwiches and fresh fruit. I also had to adapt to skim milk, not a fan of it. If I ate anything besides this, I payed for it!!! Usually my attacks were at night. I wish you an easy and comfortable pregnancy. I will be praying for you!

I went throught the same thing. I still ate the spicy foodsand fatty foods. What I did was have liquid Mallox or Pepcid cherry flavor, tums and a cup of ice and a cup of ice water at all times. Make sure if you do have ay of those foods your not suppose to, too drink lots of water or gatorade. I loved eating spaghetti and mexican food, tod the doctor I cant give that up so I found a way o do that which is drinking lots of water and it helps. I didnt have to ave surgery or anythig after I had my daughter. But if I do have another gall attack I will have to have surgery. Hope this helps you out.

Hey M.,
I wanted you to know that Tammy H. is absolutly right! I had problems with my gallbladder when I was pregant all 3 times. The last time was so bad it was making me sick to my stomach. My sister does a lot of things naturally and she found some of the same things Tammy talked about. It said to drink alot of Apple juice, eat homemade apple sauce and to drink lemon juice with olive oil. I found that I really enjoyed the taste of apple juice with lemon juice. It taste a lot like lemonade without all side effects of sugar. Give it a try. It made mine drasticlly better. I still had a few little twinges here and there, but after I did this for a little while I was able to eat normally again. Good luck. I hope you start to feel better soon. I know that is very hard on a pregnant woman.

You're not going to believe this...But, you can actually get rid of gall stones naturally. More important, painlessly. Here is what you do(this came from a RN in Greenville, and it truly works.)
Buy a jar of natural apple juice, with the pulp in it.(looks awful but worth it).
First morning drink 1- 8oz. glass of applejuice, eat normally. Do the same the 2nd day. On the 3rd day do the same except do not eat after 6:00 p.m. or drink. Before bed mix 2 freshly squeezed lemons and 1/4 cup of olive oil and drink. (Yes, some people can't stand it, but it works) Go to bed lie on right side in the fetal position for at least 30 min. (longer if you can) and when you have your next bowel movement they will pass. Sometimes this will take doing twice. Then, gradually start introducing things that would have bothered you before to see if you can eat them. This remedy has saved alot of people from having gall bladder surgery. I have personally seen it happen to several people. Good Luck! PS... Also, for heartburn...put a few drops of peppermint oil on wrists and it works like a charm..i still do this and my baby is 4yo.

start drinking distilled water everyday instead of regular tap water. It helps clean your system of mineral build-up. my mom was in the hospitol a couple of years ago and they wanted to remove her gall bladder- she told them no and started drinking distilled water. I'm not sure how long it took, but she no longer has any gall stones. I do have 3 sisters who did not do it that way and they all had to have their gall bladders removed.
Good Luck- I know it can be pretty painful, but I hope this helps!

I'm getting surgery to get my gallbladder out next Wednesday, I had attacks all during my last pregnancy 19 months ago. Be careful with any flushes, I've never seen them work for anyone else who has tried them - and most of the time, what people see pass are saponified olive oil solids - not gallstones.
I'm sorry you're going through this!

M.,

I did have the same problem with my second child, was told the same thing low fat foods. And all I can recommend is to do just that, I did end up have a couple more attacks while I was pregnant, and my OBGYN wanted me to wait 6 weeks post pregnancy to have it taken out but only managed to wait 5 until I had the worst doubling over attack then had it removed ASAP. So I know it does absolutely stink being so early in pregnancy and can't feed the cravings but look at the bright side maybe you won't gain much weight. I ate a lot of fruits and veggies and ALOT of sandwiches w/mustard of course. Good Luck from a mom w/3 boys!
