Hi ladies,
My friend is having a party for her 3 year old daughter in mid December. She is going to have a bunch of kids there from ages 2-7 years and is looking for game ideas. Are games necessary? Or are there other activities they can do? If it was summer, it would be easy, but she isn't sure how to have a winter birthday party. My daughter was summer too, so I am not much help.
Thanks for your help!

Maybe finger painting with washable paints and a heads-up to parents prior to the party that attendees should wear clothes that are appropriate for the activity? The wee guests could also make something for the birthday girl by making handprints on a large piece of poster paper and then writing (or having mom, dad, or an older kid write) their names next to their handprints. Maybe the older kids can be helpers for some activities. Also, kids are amazingly good at coming up with their own games to play. Twister might be fun for the older kids.

Doing a "hot potato" game is good for this age. Musical chairs might work too. Having a craft table set up is nice.

Hello,

I had several things that might work for indoor parties. I had a face painting table where I painted hearts and rainbows. I also had a crafts table where I had the colored pipe cleaners with tons of beads to make necklaces and bracelets. All things you can get at Michaels. We also had the foam things to make, doorhangers, hats and all kinds of things. Go to Michaels...

two words: Face Paint.
This has been a big hit with my girls' friends for their past two b-day parties (ages 6 and 7) and is affordable too - pick up a set at a craft store for around $5 and you're set

other indoor activities: some kind of bingo game - since there'll be some pre-readers you can make picture bingo cards (some online sites will even make the cards for you); pin the whatever on the whatever (we had a zoo animal party theme one year and made it "feed the fish to the penguin", this year was an around the world theme and we put a SF Bay Area map up on the wall and the object was to "pin the house on your hometown")

and even though it doesn't snow here, you can do winter crafts like make paper snowflakes
