Hello Ladies,

We are going to start having family game nights with our 6 year old daughter and I was wondering which games you Mamas enjoy playing with your children the same age. If you could explain what the games are about as to give me a general idea, that would be helpful.
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!

Apples to apples is a HUGE favorite for us! It is so much fun! We also play Bingo a lot - at Target you can get the wooden Bingo Ball spinner - and we have a lot of fun with that. Another one we like is Jenga - a wooden pick-up-sticks type of game. All can be bought at Target.

My whole family love the Disney Scene It game. - We have both versions. (Actually we have about 6 of the Scene It's). We have a whole closet full of games but that is the one that is pulled out the most. Some others are: Jumpin Monkeys, Clue Jr, Monopoly Jr, To Grandma's House We Go, Uno Attack, and a few of the Cadoo games. My family actually prefers the interactive/team type games rather than the ones you play one-on-one.

We are a game night family, too. We love it!! We like the game of Life. I also recommend going to www.familyfun.com . At the top of the page will be a tab for games, click it, and then look for the tab for games by age, and click it. Then you can look for a specific game for your age group. I have found alot of neat games to play with my 8 year old that you can play using stuff around the house, for instance, one of our favorite games from that website is a game you play in your living room. You have all the players but one leave the living room and go to another area of the house, then the person that stayed in the living room changes things in the living room, by moving objects around, or removing items, and then everyone comes back to the living room and tries to figure out what has been changed. My daughter loves to do this, she asks to play this game all the time. Hope this helps, have fun and enjoy each other.

We found a great game from Discovery Toys called Labirynth, it is a maze type board game that is easy to play and entertaining for all ages. Also, at that age both my dgts loved Connect Four and Battleship.

Have fun!

We just got my 6 year old son the electronic version of Guess Who. I like this version since you get a variety of characters and different way of playing it. Basically each person picks one character and the other person has to guess who you chose by asking questions (does your person have red hair, glasses, etc.) Fun and a good way of making them think.

Apples to Apples is a good game for all ages- you are able to make it as difficult or as easy as the age can stand. We play it often with my large family and I have nieces and nephews from 26 to 3 years old. Good luck!

We LOVE Sequence - it's fun for all ages and you can play with large groups if you have a larger family get-together. We've been playing it for a couple years with our now 13, 11, and 8 year old (so I know a 6 year old can handle the concept). It's an easy game. The game board pictures rows of playing cards (except Jacks). You deal out actual playing cards (included) and you are trying to make a "sequence" on the board by "playing" a card and placing your colored chip on that "card" on the board. It's like tic-tac-toe. Jacks are wild. We've played teams with larger gatherings and have a blast. The kids love it, too.

Our kids also like Blokus, Sorry, Life, and Mancala

I've heard great things about Loaded Questions and there is a Loaded Questions Junior. I can't speak from personal experience on that one, but we are thinking of adding it to our game collection.

Cranium has a GREAT line of games for all ages and abilities. Games that use teamwork are really good for this age. I have a 4 children ranging from 20 to 5 years old and playing in teams helps the younger ones learn higher strategies and the older ones learn patience. Games with activities and not just board work keep their bodies as well as their minds busy and involved. Dragon Tales and Blues Clues have games like that, where the players move on the board as well as do activities. Thomas the Tank Engine has a math board game that has the players make trains as they go along. This is a fabulous time to look for new and unusual game that stores may not carry all yearlong. Check the out of the ordinary stores and not just Wal-Mart, etc. Good luck and have a great time!!

Uno, Apples to Apples Jr., Monopoly Jr., The Matching Game, Twister, the junior edition of Cranium---it has a different name and I can't think of it off the top of my head, Don't Eat Pete (not a board game), Hide and Seek, Old Maid, Pick up Sticks, etc.

Game nights are awesome!!!

Cranium has some of the best games. My kids love Cranium Cadoo, which is a junior version of the adult cranium game. It has a variety of activities. You draw cards that ask you to act things out or draw them or make something out of playdoh. It is easy enough for a six year old, but entertaining enough for adults to do. If she is not reading yet, you may need to help read the cards. Also, they have several other games that are even easier for younger ones - I can't think of the names, but one is a carnival game and one is I think named Cariboo, a buried treasure game - this was one of my kid's favorite games and they could play it even at three years old.

Candyland is a good one. It is a game where there are up to 4 players and you have colored cards that you have to move your player by. Whoever gets to the end first wins. Then there is chutes and ladders. You go up ladders when you land on a space where you can climb the ladder and if you move your player on a chute you have to go back to where the chute ends. Whoever gets to the end first wins. We also play trouble. It has a bubble in the middle that you push with a dise in it and thats how many spaces you can move. whoever gets all 4 of their pegs in the home space wins. My husband and I play with our 7 yr old daughter and 9 yr old son. They have a lot of fun while playing.

We play Dominos(mexican train/chicken scratch) and our 5 & 8yr. olds love it and now my 3 yr. old is in on it as well. It is where you have 15 dominos each and then you have to match the dots/colors basically until someone plays out-they love it and it's help the youngest with his colors and we have the older two counting and our oldest has to add up everyone's score when the game ends-they are all learning and we are all having fun. We also play a LOT of Memory, Connect 4 and Carebear Uno! HTH

What a good question. My husband and I love Scrabble, but that is too hard for a 6 year old. When I was 6, my favorites were Payday (board game)...Win, Lose, or Draw (the drawing game, and you can just get a big tablet from Office Depot or a kids easel)...we still love charades (but not sure how to spell it).
