Gassy Wheezy Baby During Feeding

I have a 1.5 month old baby who seems extremely gassy. She pulls away from the bottle, sounds wheezy and has a hard time burping out the air. But will continue to cry and feed again since shes hungry.

I've tried three types of formula from similac advance to good start and now we are using similac alimentum as per the doctor. We've also gone through various bottles born free, avent, platex drop ins, and ventaire. However, nothing seems to be working. After feeds, she burps but still sounds like shes got air in her, no matter how long I burp her. I keep her upright after feeds for at least 15 minutes. I've also given her Mylicon drops, but still she is very uncomfortable during and after feedings. Please help!

What can I do next?

Hi M.,
My baby also sounded very wheezy and gassy for the first couple of months (he's now 3 months old). He's breastfed, but was also really hard to burp and seemed to need frequent burping. The junky breathing is usually just regurgitated milk, that they have not yet learned how to clear from their throats. My doctor said it would pass, and indeed, it has gotten considerably better in the past couple of weeks. He sounds much clearer and he's way easier to burp. She also said that we could help open up his passageways by turning on the hot shower in the bathroom and letting the room steam up, and sitting in it for a few minutes with the baby. Then you kind of pat them on the back, to help loosen the mucus.
Check with your pediatrician about all of it of course, but this should pass soon.
best of luck and much peace to you,
E..

hi
i didn't have this exact experience, but 2 quick thoughts- in conjuncture with those already given -that might help: holding your baby differently while you nurse her (you could look up the "clutch" or "football" hold online probably) and burping her in different positions- laying her over your leg or leaning forward on the heel of your palm to help push the gas out, or up high on your shoulder so it does the same. i don't think alone this would "solve" it, but maybe would help some. good luck!

Hi,
Have you tried Gripe water, Many people swear by it for gassy babies.? also Hylands natural colic tablets( Homeopathic and quite mild so they are not just for Colic, but good for gas as well.) You can also try a tiny bit of cammomile tea( cooled down) in a bottle or teaspoon.
You can also try to massage her abdomen, start at the lower right quadrant and work around clockwise, or gently bend her knees into her chest to release the gas.
Good luck,
Julia

I know you've been through some bottle changes, but try one more Dr. Brown bottles work. Helps with the gas and my Auntie who's a nurse warmed a wash cloth (not too hot) and put it on the babies stomache to move the gas. My daughter is 5 months and still get's upset at the end of the bottle. You can tell by the look at her face she's full but she never wants to burp. I just talk her through and before i know it we have atleast two "Truck driver" burps...Hope this helps a little.
