Geico Insurance

Hi Everyone,

My insurance spiked up and I was shopping around, I found that Geico is the cheapest so I bought a policy with them today... After canceling my other insurance (that I had for about 6 years and became friendly with the agent), she told me that I should be careful with Geico because there not the most reliable, trustworthy company. Any input with anyone that has Geico? Do you like them? Not like them? Why?

What can I do next?

Thanks so much everyone!!!!! I'm sticking with Geico then :0)

I had Geico for years. I never had to make a claim with them, but they were always on time with my regular paperwork, etc. Customer service is good. I wouldn't have switched, but I got married and my husband had a better policy and rates with USAA.

Of course she's going to say that, she wants to scare you into staying with her company and giving her the business and commission. There's nothing wrong with GEICO, I had them for a few years until I decided to switch back to Progressive, my old insurance, as I got a better deal by doing the family plan with my parents than I did with GEICO. It's obviously a scare tactic.

Car salespeople do the same, when I told my family's Honda salesman that I was tired of their cars that looked too matronly and found a Toyota that was more stylish and sporty, he said I'd be sorry as Toyotas rust within a year or two of owning them and constantly break down. Funny, considering the Camry is one of America's best-selling vehicles and Toyota was the top-selling car company in the U.S. for quite some time. I know plenty of people who have had their Toyotas for 15+ years and still running. Therefore, I ignored his threats, got the Toyota I wanted and kept that Toyota for 4 years until I upgraded to a V6 model of the same vehicle last year, and I had no rust or any issues during those 4 years.

I got a better deal, cheaper maintenance prices, and no more long waits at the dealership for service as Toyota has more dealerships in South Florida than Honda does.

My parents and sister still use him every 3 years when their leases are up, and they like the Hondas, so I guess in the end, it was a win-win even if he lost me as a customer due to the fact they got rid of their sporty lineup. Ignore this woman and do what is best for YOU.

We have GEICO and have never had any issues. In fact when we had our very nasty car accident (young 19 year old was too busy with girlfriend's head under dash if you catch my drift to notice he was heading head on into out lane) they worked great with us. Your previous agent may have said this to scare you/lure you back with her. Remember they get a commission for every policy they sell.

I was a long time State Farm customer and still am for my home, but when we moved across country a bit over two years ago, I switched our car insurance to Geico because SF was super expensive and Geico was not. I have not had any claims thus far but have found Geico to be great. I am able to see everything online about our policies and even make changes. Communication with them has been good. I have been familiar with Geico for several years and they have an excellent reputation; maybe your other agent was feeling a little resentment and that's why she said what she did?

I've had Geico for years. Our agent told us the same thing when we switched...LOL We knew the agent well too but we couldn't beat the price that Geico offered. We've never had any complaints at all about Geico and would recommend them to anyone. I have a feeling that your agent would probably say that about any company you went with. ;) Good luck!!

We have Progressive, it was cheaper then Nationwide. Our Nationwide agent suggested it (plus they sell/offer it). We thought about Geico and know people/friends that sell it and work for Geico. I think your insurance agent was trying to scare you and save a sale. Instead of making the insurance cheaper she lost a customer. Good for you for switching and sticking to your guns. Geico advertises a lot so I'm sure they have money to pay their claims.

We've been with Geico for about 7 years and love them. Our rates DECREASE all the time instead of increasing and we pay a whole $110 a month for full coverage on both cars.

We've had Geico for years. And have been very happy. We've had a few claims (hubby hit a deer one night coming home from work, a windshield cracked from a rock thrown up in the road, minor fender bender stuff (bumped by or into someone in a parking lot or school pick-up line, that sort of stuff... and just last month, hubby was hit head on by another driver on his way to work and the other driver was uninsured). His car is now repaired and back in service, his medical was taken care of ASAP, and he was in a rental the same day as the accident, which they extended for 3 weeks with no problems after some special order parts on his car weren't in stock and delayed the repairs; AND as it was the day before Thanksgiving when his car was finally ready, and I was out of town with the kids for the holiday but hubby had to be at work until 9 pm and the body shop was closed when he was expected to get off, they extended his rental until the following Monday/business day that my husband was able to drop off the rental and pick up his car.

Geico has been easy to work with and handled everything top notch for us.

I don't know about anyone else's experiences with them, but we have no complaints.

I've never had GEICO, but when I worked for personal injury attorneys, for the most part GEICO was good to work with and settled claims with pretty reasonable settlements and time frame. I don't know about their customer service, but the people that I know that have GEICO never complain to me and since my husband works for a competing insurance company, I would think that if my friends had problems with GEICO that they would come to me with questions.

it's her job to try and keep your business. If an apples to apples approach doesn't work, the next step is to focus on value. She tried to devalue Geico so that you would reconsider moving your business. You can go to your states insurance commission website and see the complaints that are filed against an insurance compnay. They have it broken down to claims, billing, customer service, etc. You can check for yourself how they stack up. Another way to know if it's going to be a good move is to call the biggest body shop around and ask if they have any problems with that company when it comes to claims. Bodyshops deal with all insurance companies and know which ones pay quickly, and fairly and which ones drag thier feet and aren't customer oriented.

Hey Kg,
Ive had Geico for almost 15 years and never had a problem with them...I only noticed an increase for the first time last year by about 5 dollars...I called them and they explained that unfortunately everything has gone up but that they expect it to go back down again next year...I honestly have nothing but good things to say about them...Everyone you talk to is friendly and are always there to help you...they even do a review every 6 months to see how they can lower your bill!!

We have Geico and love it. I love that I don't have to meet with an agent to add or subtract a vehicle, I can just do it online. We have a few winter/summer vehicles that we only drive for certain months. A few weeks after switching, we were side swiped on the highway and I called and let them know, even tho it wasn't our fault and they were super helpful and helped with the other insurance company for me! No complaints- not the cheapest on motorcycle insurance tho- that is State Farm across the board

I went online and googled "how to select an insurance company". http://www.edmunds.com/auto-insurance/how-to-choose-the-r...; We live in Massachusetts.
It advised 1) Call your local auto body and ask who is the easiest to deal wtih. My local guy recommended Plymouth Rock since they come the same day to check out a car while Geico, Progressive and Liberty Mutual can make you wait as long as a week to even see what kind of repair the car needs. This is according to him, not my words. 2) The website also said to go to your local state Division of Insurance website and click on Automobile Insurance Complaints, this lists complaints by company per $10K in premium as well as market share, and choose one with low compaints. http://www.mass.gov/?pageID=ocaterminal&L=5&L0=Ho...

I have had GEICO for almost 10 years and have had only one issue with them and that was only with one adjustor. All other dealings I have with them have been absolutely trouble free. They've been professional to the max, friendly, supportive and knowledgible, their rates have been the most reasonable I've ever seen. I imagine that they're like all other businesses that have a number of locations, in that there may be individuals working for them who are less than great, but 99% of my experience with them has been positive, and all of the folks I've had dealings with, with as I said that one exception, have been A-1. Hope this helps!

wow thats really crazy that someone that works for a company would say something bad about it. As a freindship she did a good deed by being honest with you. As an employee well thats another story lol. Ive never had gieco , butt when i moved down here my insurance doubled because they said Dallas and Houston are the highest rates for insurance in Texas. I have state farm liability and its 64 dollars thats really high. Im hoping to get a cheaper insurance soon let me know how gieco turns out for you;]]
