yes i said "Yall" :)

Just a quick query. If you had a 3 bedroom house one daughter in each bedroom then found yourself newly pregnant......how would you divvy up the rooms when the baby came?

Obviously if i had another girl she would stay with my youngest girl. My daughters are 8 and 2. But what if i have a boy? should i...

have the 8 year old and 2 year old bunk together?
have the newborn boy bunk with the 2 year old?

or move?

lol

****edited, i co sleep so i wouldnt be putting the baby in their own bed till at least over a year old

What can I do next?

well, I don't co-sleep so I would have the 2 year old and infant in the same room. The 8 year old is getting to the point where she will need her own space.

If I had a boy instead of a girl - I would STILL put the 2 year old and baby in the same room then start hunting for a bigger home....

Personally - if moving was an option - I would chose moving...each child will EVENTUALLY need their own space...so if you move now - then it will be easier on everyone!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Are you planning on placing the baby in a crib right away? Regardless of the gender of the baby I think I would rather put the 8 year old and the 2 year old together at least until the baby is sleeping through the night. If the baby is another girl then I would put the two younger ones in the room together when the baby is sleeping through the night. If the baby is a boy I would still put the two younger ones in the same room when they are younger (until the boy is about 5) and move the girls in together when they are older. You still might want to look for a larger house for those teenage years :) It might do better for sibling rivalry not to share a room at the same time awkardness sets in for the older daughter. The age difference is what I'm considering here. Not many older preteen girls want their younger sister really hanging around.

If you are able to move, I would do that. But for the first several months, I would have the baby in my room.

Have the baby stay in a bassinette next to you the first few months. He/she needs the contact. Later on if he/she is a good sleeper put him in with the two year old.
My mother and most people who grew up until the 1950's had a girls bedroom and a boys bedroom in the house that was it. The dining room was the desk and homework room until dinner time.
Before that only the rich had a bedroom per child. I've lived in Europe a long time. Only ever in one home were their 18 bedrooms none very generous in size for the children of that family. Yes there was only one mother. Unbearable eh? And in that home there was a big washroom and two toilet rooms. All the kids were born before 1919. Seventeen girls and finally one boy.

Hi! Im a texan too! I say put the 2 girls together and have a room for the baby. I don't think the gender matters, just the logistics of it. A newborn will keep the 2 yr up or vice versa. Would you rather have one to deal with or two at the same time? That's my take!

Oh do not put the two girls together that is a recipe for disaster, your 8 year old will hate it!
When they're little it's more about age than gender. My son and daughter shared a room with bunk beds for about 4 years, from the time he was about 5 to 8 and she was 3 to 6. They had a BLAST! They each had their own special bedding a few pictures on the wall, and the rest of the room was neutral.
I think it was the very best time in their relationship :)

Baby goes in my room for a while....6 months or so. Then baby moves into room with the 2 year old. They will be closer in age and probably play more together than an 8 year old and a baby. My son is almost 9 and my other is almost 6 and they are GREAT friends, always playing together (except for the normal brotherly spats) and they shared a room when the younger one was born. Boy or girl...I vote for the younger kids to share the room. Or move. lol

No need to move in my book! I would have the baby in a bassinet w/ me for a little while, then in with your youngest in the largest of the 2 bedrooms. I would leave them this way forever if you have another girl, or a few years if you have a boy. If it is a boy I may switch them around so the boy has the smallest room to himself & the 2 girls share the bigger room probably by the time he's 2 or so. The reason I'm going with that time line is because your oldest will be 10 by then. If you wait much longer than that to make the switch she'll be much more likely to push back a whole lot more when she has to go from having a room to herself to sharing with her baby sister.

I'm having a similar issue for the near future... we have a *small* 3 bd/1 bath home and one is our room, one is to be my daughter's room and one is the office. We really cannot make the office into a bedroom because it's so tiny and there would be no place for us to put our desktop computers (which we both do not like laptops) and all the electronic stuff and paper stuff we have.

So our thing was... do we save up for the next 2-3 years (amount of time I estimate to co-sleep) to add on to our home, like a 2nd story - or do we look into buying another home?

Decisions decisions!! For your issue tho - that's hard too, because your first two children are far apart, but having a toddler and baby in the same room would be hard too.

I would put the 2 year old in with the baby whether the baby is boy or girl. If the rooms are different sizes I would make sure the youngest kids have the bigger room though. They are sharing a room they need the extra space.
I have my younger girls sharing a room and my 13 year old has her own room. Of course, my 13 year old has a lot smaller of a room than the two sharing.
Or, you could move but what if another comes along? lol

Well, for me I had three boys so the older two have a bunk bed (7 and 3). My youngest has a room to himself because we all know how the night waking thing goes!

For me, it depends on how well the older two get along. But I would lean towards baby having his/her own room for a while so that you don't wake up the other two, who really need their sleep, otherwise you'll have three tired, cranky children and a tired, stressed out mama!

You have some time before you really have to decide.

If it were me, I would probably put the baby and the youngest one together for a while. You may want to look into getting a bigger place if it's a boy.

Put the baby with the 2 year old. Age is a lot more important than gender for little ones.
Congratulations!

I co-slept with mine! Mine are all boys and the 2 younger ones share a room. It was a no brainer for us. We didn't even think about giving the baby his won room. He was in our room for almost 2 years, sleeping in his crib only during naps. Once he was weaned over night, he went in his own bed.

I think the 8 yo should have her own room. She is old enough to care and for it to matter, regardless of the sex of the baby. Once the baby is 4 or 5, you can consider moving, if you want.

Congrats!
