Hi everyone,
Hubby needs an Iphone for work. We are going to be using At&t. We don't want to do an Iphone for me because of the extra cost. However, some of the phones like the Samsung have a data plan that is smaller. From what I understand it is limited too. Does anyone else use At&T and have a data plan on a phone that isn't an Iphone or Blackberry. Anyone have a family data plan? Again, I hate technology!!!

I know you said no to the iphone, but I couldn't function without mine!

We have the family plan with 2100 minutes, my iphone and my husband's regular cell plus the data plan for the iphone and texting for $148 a month.

Do you need a data plan? I mean I have a "smart phone" for the calendar use but don't have a data plan to do all that other stuff on it. And I actually didn't even use the calendar function so debating on going back to a regular calling phone. If you don't NEED the internet for work or other things then I would save money and not get a data plan at all.
I am still with Verizon as I live pretty far out of the city and it's the ONLY plan that currently works at my house. My sons dad has AT&T and he does have complaints that it doesn't work in some areas. He loves his IPhone, no real reason to have it, just has one.
On a side note, one of the girls I work with just got an IPhone and she LOVES it. She didn't NEED it but uses all the functions all the time. She said she will never go back to a regular phone.

There are family plans... At&T has that too as most providers.
But if you use At&T like your Husband.. then your phone bill will be all in one and from them.
My Husband has an iphone/AT&T, and I have a cell phone from them too... one of their lower cost free phones. I just use it to make/receive calls, I don't use all the features on it. I don't need all that. Its just basic. We have their family plan. My phone from them is the "LG" slider phone. Works great.

Sorry, I don't know what you mean by "data plan."

good luck,
Susan

I had an ordinary flip top phone for years = paid $59 which came to $85 after taxes and just recently switched to an Iphone. - paying $106 with taxes I LOVE IT. If you have any kind of business, it is great to be able to check your emails and respond to customers immediately instead of having to wait to get back to the office. Sending them update pictures is great too. Also all the different apps you can down load are very handy too.

If you are getting a new phone just for calling or texting, and don't need all the other stuff, don't bother with the Iphone, it would be a waste of money for you. I do like AT&T as a service though. Never any dropped calls, like I had with sprint (which was very irritating when talking to a customer). i.e. Good coverage.

It's not that I'm not a fan of technology, I just don't use it much. Almost 2 years ago, my husband got an iPhone for work, and I just got an lg vu because it was free (or $20) and I didn't see the need to spend $200 on a device you use just to talk.
Needless to say, I've wanted one ever since. Even though you think you don't want it, I would suggest at least considering It if it works in your budget. The email and web browsing alone is awesome. Plus, most Disney movies have digital copies nowadays (if you buy movies), and my husband has several kid movies on his phone for "just in case".

Just talking from an identical experience. I'll be upgrading in June/July and just counting the days! (the new iPhone comes out then- so does my upgrade). :)

We have the family data plan from AT&T, dgtr has an iphone and I have the AT&T Quickfire. I LOVE it!! It is most useful for main phone functions (calling and texting) and it makes accessing my email easy. This is very useful for me since I am usually out the door with kids before I have a chance to check email on the computer, so I can easily check it and make sure I haven't missed anything important as soon as I have dropped the kids off and I'm headed to my own hectic life away from home. I can also access the internet, but seldom do so. The most likely and useful scenarios have been yellowpages.com, mapquest (I didn't pay for the extra gps ap) or checking social networking sites while I'm sitting around waiting to pick up the kids after school. I constantly have people ask me what phone I have, its touchscreen with a slide open qwerty pad for texting and typing. It even takes pretty decent photos, but don't depend on the video quality. I would highly recommend this phone.

We are with AT&T and I chose the Samsung Flight. We are on the family plan and I was able to get the data plan for $9.99 with this phone as we have unlimited texting for the family. I like the phone, it has a touchscreen and a slide out keyboard and it is a cheaper alternative to the iPhone or Blackberry data plans. I think at the time it was $49 after $50 mail in rebate. They were helpful in the shop too so you should be able to get a phone that is right for you....
Good luck!

If you don't need all the gadgets of Facebook, Windows live etc on your phone for browsing the internet I would simply buy my phone outright and have a pay as you go plan. I find that Virgin is very good with their pay as you go plan. If you put lets say a $15. card on it is good for 3mos. where other companies will take that money if not used at the end of the month. You can also pay $25. $50 or $100. thus giving you that extra time. Your phone doesn't get cut off and you don't lose your money like other companies. If you pay a $5.00 per mth. fee you can 100txt. free which is what I do. You can still use the internet but it will cost you and be deducted from your pay as you go money. Virgin phones are inexpensive and they are great for getting in touch with when you have any issue's with your phone. Good luck!!

There is a phone plan.... through straight talk at wal mart... you buy the phone (runs on verizon network so excellent service) the plan is 45 dollars a month. you buy an unlimited card to refill each month, or you can just set it up on an autopay and not have to worry about getting the silly cards.
We had our existing numbers ported over, and they had them swapped over to
our new phone within 20 minutes.

You get unlimited talk, unlimted text and picture messgaes, and unlimited
web browser access. I have never had a dropped call or been without
service.

Good luck!

We have the AT&T family plan w/4 phones. About a year ago we got a Samsung Eternity for our son. It's a touch screen phone and was free with a 2 yr service agreement extension, ok by me, we've been with them for over 20 years and have no complaints about their service. The phone works great and he loves it. He already had unlimited text for $20/mo, then they offered unlimited text and data for $30/mo, so we switched his service. They even gave us credit for the unused portion of the $20 plan. Our other three phones do not have text or data. He loves the phone and the cost savings of not having to purchase internet for his home. He uses his phone to check email and facebook, or look up phone numbers, or search for an address, or get traffic/weather updates....the uses are endless and I was amazed at the convenience, plus he pays for his portion of the costs. I always travel with my laptop, HEAVY, and am planning to upgrade to the Samsung Eternity touchphone with data service for the convenience and to lighten my briefcase load as soon as my phone is eligible for the free upgrade. You should embrace technology, it's our present and our future, get with the program or get left behind...alone. Good luck! (^_~)

Sorry, had to pipe in here. I have a Samsung blackjack and HATE it! We have a family data plan. I use it for work, so does my husband. He has iphone and was always very negative about them. . . until he got one - LOL. Anyways, I would strongly encourage you to avoid this one particular brand of samsung or the whole lot. Not exactly sure of the background on the Blackberry, but when I can upgrade at end of month I am getting one agin. The BEST ever in my experience. (oh and because I can't afford the iphone upgrade) Best.

I have an LG Neon and I pay $30 per month for unlimited text and data through AT&T. I am very happy with my phone. I use the texting more than data, but do use the internet on the phone for several things. I am able to download pictures from my phone straight to my facebook page. I love the picture quality of the Neon camera.
