My first thought was the Magic Eraser. I would spot treat it first.
Hi all,
My child scribbled all over our chalkboard with a dry erase marker. Is there anyway to get this marker off without compromising the chalkboard? Or, is the thing toast and needs to be thrown away?
Thanks!

well once this happened to my kids easel chalk board. I used my husbands expensive russian Vodka. It worked but it left a slightly darker green chalk board where the worst spots were, however it didnt compromise the chalk when the kids drew on it.
If you're not able to get it off with all the suggestions you already have don't despair. I know there is a kind of paint you can get to 'paint' a chalkboard. I had a friend use it on the bottom half of her kid's room wall so he could color w/ chalk as much as he wanted on that wall. I just don't know if you get it at a craft supply store or the hardware store. Do some looking on the internet - you could end up just painting over the clean board and practically have a brand new board!
I ditto the chalk board paint - excellent. We used the spray paint style on a desk that the kids actually color on, when I need it cleaned up a wet rag is all it needs to maintain. We just got the paint at ACE or Home Depot.
Try either an actual eraser (like a pencil eraser) but spot test this first. Or you could try some vinegar and a very small amound of baking soda to act as an abrasive but again I would spot test first to assure that it wont ruin the surface of the chalk board
Good Luck
I'm a teacher and have ended up with dry erase marker on things where I didn't want it (laminated papers etc.). I've used nail polish remover to get it off, but I don't know if that would hurt the chalkboard.
Rubbing alcohol works the best to remove dry erase marker from just about anything. If you have hand sanitizer, you can smear it all over the chalkboard, let it sit a minute and then wipe it clean with a dry soft cloth. You can also use this method on dry erase white boards that are "stained" from the markers.
