Getting off Depression Med's for Pregnancy

Does anyone know more about using Lexapro during pregnancy? Is it safe or do you know of anyone who has stayed on it or gotten off anything like that. My doctor said it's just not studied enough to know and some doctors feel good about it, and others don't. I plan to stop the meds anyway, but I'm scared, I'll be honest. I've seen some crazy pregnant ladies and I don't want it to be double bad for my sweet husband, not to mention me. I just take 5 mg a day now. I could get pregnant any day really, but I don't think it will be for another 2 months or so because of the birth control we did. So anyway, any advice or opinions are welcome!

What can I do next?

I know my friend was on prozac during her pregnancy because her doctor felt that her emotional well-being far outweighed any affect the medication would have on the baby...

Could you try Prozac for during your pregnancy? I took Prozac through both my pregnancies and my kids are "normal." Prozac is the oldest (over 30 years) and most studied anti-depression med for women to take during pregnancy.

I have a friend that took Lexapro through her pregnancy. Her dr. weaned her off of it the last month. Everything was perfectly fine! I wasn't on Lexapro during my pregnancies, but I have been on it since and I would bet that my husband would want me on it if I ever get pregnant again! Good luck!

It can be dangerous to change these kinds of medications while your pregnant. It would be a good idea to talk to your local pharmacist. They can provide free counsel and often know more about some of these drugs than doctors. They have access to all sorts of information that would be helpful. Next time you pick up your prescription or you're just in the grocery store, ask your pharmacist for some counseling.

M.,
One thing that you get to know is that any medication that you take will not affect the baby until you know for sure that you are pregnant. Many women worry about meds they take at conception. About the same time that science can know for sure that you are pregnant is when the baby is attached to the blood supply of the mother.
I would strongly suggest that if you are going to stop your meds that you find some extra support with your depression.
Pregnacy itself can create mood swings, so please make sure that you have someone or a group of people that can support you when you are feeling down.
With my whole heart, C.
