Getting Pregnant - Burleson, TX

My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for 6 months now. We are not concerned about infertility but I am concerned about my irregular period. Nearly every month I think I am pregnant because of a "missed" period and starting to get very discouraged and upset when I am not. Obviously I am not pregnant but yet again this month my period is 8 days late and I am fighting taking the test and having more dissapointment. My question is when should I really think that I am pregnant when my period likes to come at a different time every month? Also, what is the best way to try and pinpoint ovulation with such a varied cycle?

What can I do next?

I have much the same problem as you. You can try charting your temps. This will give you an idea of when you actually ovulated in each cycle so you would have a better idea of when to try a pregnancy test, and when your period shoudl be coming. Look at a site such as www.fertilityfriend.com You can also discuss your irregular periods with your OBGYN. I have heard that Clomid can help to regulate you. I am actually going to discuss that again with my doc at my appointment in a couple of weeks. Good luck.

I used the Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor. It's an electronic monitor that reads a urine stick to determine when you're ovulating. It costs about $150, but it's worth every penny if you think about the stress it alleviates (which can also keep you from getting pregnant). I ordered it from Amazon, along with the urine sticks, and it was really easy to use, totally "fool-proof". Good luck to you!

Hi R.,
I would def start monitering your ovulation. I got lucky and somebody gave me a $200 moniter, but there are other cheaper ways of doing it. Once you figuare out exactly when you ovulate then you should know when your next period should come b/c you always start your period 12-14 days post ovulation. That is how I figuared out I had a problem, we have been TTC for almost a year now and the period between my ovulation and the time of my period was too short (10 days)so now I'm on clomid to try to regulate all the hormones and hopefully we will get pregnant soon. Good luck to y'all.

I was having the same issues and it turned out in my case that my "irregular periods" were actually early misscarriages (where you dont need a D&C). My OB said a VERY high % of women have at LEAST one in there life and never know it as they just think theor period is late. I was told that it was probably my hormone levels being low but blood work never came back showing it. It took me 2 years and 6 early misscarriages to get pregnant with my 1st and 14 months and 5 early misscarriages to get pregnant with the one Im expecting. I would def talk to your OB to eliminate any other problems. The way I tracked my ovulation date was you take your temp BEFORE you get up out of bed every morning an chart it. You will see it peak a certain time each month and you will begin to notice a pattern. When it peaks is your ovulation time. You will usually also notice that you are a little more. . .ummm. . .jelly like "down there" discharge wise if that makes sense. I also made sure I was taking my prenatals, plenty of OJ and other good foods, light excersise as was told that the heavier you are the harder most times it is to concieve and so on. I also tried to reduce stress as much as possible including stopping "trying" to get pregnant as the disapointments drove me crazy too. I just stopped trying and just obiously didnt try to prevent it either and then finally was able to stay pregnant. Good luck and again I would see your OB just in case there is something hormone level wise or something. :)

I had the same issues you are having and saw many fertility doctors. They pumped me full of clomid and progesterone. Come to find out at a routine check up with my family doctor I have PCOS and was insulin resistant. This caused my irregular periods. She perscribed me gluciphage to help withmy insulin resistance. 2 weeks later I was pregnant. You might start with a check up with your family doctor.

I had the same problem and was diagnosed with PCOS as well. I would actually go months without a period. I finally started on Metformin and 3 months later was pregnant. We are now due in July. I know it sounds crazy that insulin could be affecting your chances of getting pregnant, but insulin controls a lot of the hormones your body produces or in the case of PCOS is not producing.

Also, if you are interested in purchasing a Clear Blue Easy monitor for a lot less than the $200 they sell new for, I have one that I would be happy to sell as this will be our only child. I also have about a 20 day supply or so of the sticks that go with it. I used the monitor before the PCOS diagnosis and found out through the use of the monitor that I was not ovulating at all. I would never heat the "peak" of the cycle on the monitor. If you are interested in purchasing the monitor just email me ____@____.com.

I hope that all of the advice helps. Good luck and don't give up, but definately go see your doctor.
