I live in a very small town that as far as I am aware does not have a place to donate barely worn baby clothes.
With my first baby I had a friend that was having a boy a couple months after me so I just gave her almost everything when my son either grew out of it stopped playing with it etc....
Where we live now I really dont know anyone and the people I do know either dont have kids or their kids are older.. So now I have all these NB clothes that my seven week old is starting to grow out of and I dont know what to do with them. I really dont want to just throw them away because they are really nice baby clothes.
Suggestions on what I can do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the suggestions, I am going to have to do some googling but I will for sure find a place to donate because I completely agree that there are many moms in need. My son actually attends a private religious school and I tried asking today if they knew of anywhere to donate or someone in need in town and they said no so I will have to keep trying.

There is a place online where you pack the clothes in a box and people pay you money to ship the box to them. You list what is in it, etc. If you want to sell, it that is the way to go. I will try to find the name of it and get back to you. My friend did it and loved how easy it was.

Do you ever go into a larger town or city to shop? Save the clothes in garbage bags or bins and look up a local Goodwill, Salvation Army or shelter where you can take them when you go. If you have the time, you can also try selling them on ebay or Craigslist.

A local church may be able to pass them along to a family in need.

Please contact local churches. In my area, we have a community resource center that has a clothes "closet" for people who need things. Also, we have a rescue mission that takes donations.
I volunteer at a thrift store that is a non-profit and all proceeds go to an amimal shelter and sanctuary. Because there are so many animal lovers, we get amazing donations. Our clothes are all only 99 cents and 25 cents on Fridays. We also help people who have lost everything in a house fire or have other emergencies and don't charge them anything for things they need.
There are hopefully lots of places near you that you can donate these clothes and you even get a receipt for your charitable donation.

I hope you get some other good suggestions as well.

Best wishes!

there are lots of people who need them, at home and not. you could send them to haiti if you dont mind picking up the shipping, or find someone to ship it for you. our next town over had a huge drive, we just dropped everything off at the fire house and they sent it over by container. if you look online i bet you can find someone doing this. they are at the edge of a cholora outbreak, and they have a horrible very sad orphan situation, all these kids and babies, its so sad. ....and im sure there are plenty of people right in your town who could use them. your school should do a clothing drive. get your pta to call your local girl scouts, they will probably work with the students. my school has a program like that. people drop off bags in the lobby for a week, send them in with the kids, and we keep it local. very easy to do regularly. we did a drive for haiti too. and another for toys for kids on the holidays. look online... look at churches, wic, dept of social services, local shelters, vets assn, maybe theres a ronald mcdonald house? whatever floats your boat :)

I second finding a church or posting on Craigslist. People sometimes travel a bit for things, especially if you want to give them away. I gave away a lot through Craigslist after my second and found a lot of young parents (like we were/are) were able to get things from us. Unfortunately, now we're having another and doing the same thing--shopping Craigslist. =)

My first suggestion was also the church. I also got to thinking that you might want to contact the health department as they may know of young mothers or mothers-to-be that could use them. If not them, then check with the local hospital.

Sell on Craigslist.

There is probably a local outreach and you aren't aware of it. Call around or do Google searches and find a place to donate. There are plenty of needy new moms out there.

Call the local church and ask if they accept donations.

My guess would be that any church, school or public health department in your area would know of some family in need that could use them. Many churches have crises pregnancy help, etc. that you may not hear about -- but they would probably appreciate your donation.

If you want to give it away, you could try asking a local daycare if they know of anyone that is in need of baby clothes, or if they could use them as extras.

Find a church group that may have a use for them or they may know where they can send them.

Here is the link to the IRS. You can see all the registered charities in your city. There should be someone who would be glad to take them off your hands. Just ask if they give a receipt for write off purposes.

If it doesn't work, go to www.irs.gov then on the right - 2 boxes down "Filing & Payments" then "For Individual Taxpayers" then Find Charities...

If you just want to give them away - take them to a Church - I'm sure they know of families that would love to have them. Or the Mission for homeless - even the homeless have babies. Winter is coming and it's getting cold. I hope that you can find a good home. Do you have a "Relief Nursery" near by?
