Getting Scare About Labor

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

Here I am again asking for your advice. Here is my problem: Since my first Sonogram, I was told my placenta was very low and small. Now I am 36 weeks pregnant and just received the las sonogram. I was told my placenta moved 3.5( not sure if cm or inches) dont remember which unit it is measured in. I was told some Doctors just prefer doing csection if the placenta is less than 5units from the birth canal. Well my Doctor still wants me to try to have the baby natural. I am afraid of the types of complications this might have. Has anyone had this problem or issue. What should I expect?

I am with the previous post-er. Your doctor thinks you should try a vaginal delivery and would not direct you to do this if it was too risky. Your doctor knows you and your history and is recommending that based on how he believes it will go....not on what other Doctors do.
Relax, and be calm, and prepare to enjoy your new baby!

I had partial Placenta Previa my entire second pregnancy and it did not move. Thus I did end up with a c-section partially due to that and partially due to other complications. BUT I wish I had the option for vaginal delivery. The doctors will take no short cuts with the placenta being in the way because of the possible hemorrhaging complications. I don't think your Dr would even suggest that you could do a vaginal delivery unless it was a sure possibility. So trust him/her and go with it. I've had one vaginal delivery and 2 c-sections and I MUCH prefer the vaginal. As long as it's safe I would push for that option as much as possible!!

Stop. Deep breath. You are doing great.

Don't believe everything you read online. TALK to your doctor about your concerns.

I know this will be easier to say then it will be to do but take a deep breath and relax. If your doctor feels confident that you should try a vaginal delivery, why not go for it? The more you hang onto your fears, the harder labor will be for you.

There are risks associated with every birth. Some we are able to control and others we are not. Knowing what actions may or may not be taken will go a long way for keeping you calm. Maybe both you and the doctor will feel safer if you deliver in the OR instead of a regular room just in case. Maybe your doctor feels so confident that things will turn out all right that there is no need for any type of extra precautions.

No matter what happens, you are trying to deliver an healthy and happy baby. Keep an open mind and remember to ask lots of questions if the doctor starts talking about procedures being done. Well, if you are in labor, you may not be able to ask all of those important questions so make sure your husband is ready to ask. As long as you know the pros and cons, you will be able to make an educated decision as to whether the procedure is right for you and your baby.

Hi Y.,

I think that labor is a scary thing, no matter what, so the closer it gets to more nervous you get and it's normal, and when you think there is something not "normal" more so.

I would talk to the doctor, tell your concerns and make a clear statement that you do not want to put ANY strain in you or the baby and that you are not closed to any birth method, being either a natural or a C-section.

I imagine that you trust your doctor's judgement, so just make clear that you do not want your baby to suffer any risk... some doctors thinking that natural birth is the best option (and it is but not for every case) wait too long in labor to perform a C-section.

I had two c-sections, the first one after more than 14 hours of labor, I just couldn't dilate enough and by that time my baby was suffering too much, by the time the doctor decided to perform the C-section it was an emergency, and even I think that natural birth is better I wish it would not have gotten to that point. It just added to the fear of it all (it was not my doctor but the doctor in turn) and my baby had to spend the whole night in intensive care unit for "observation".... but he is fine and healthy.

My second time around was c-section from the begining and for that reason was much less stressful. I knew what to expect and the timings.

By the way, personal choice but I HIGHLY recommend the epidural.

Here is a website that may help you easy your concerns, type labor and delivery at their search.

GOOD LUCK, AND CONGRATULATIONS!!!
M.

It's going to be okay. It sounds cool (from this end) that your doc wants to do it naturally. He's got confidence in the situation AND he's got experience. How do you Feel about what he says?
I say this from this standpoint: had my Darling at 24 weeks via emergency c-section. Got a huge scar slicing straight up my middle - but no regrets, no fears - my God gave to me my doctor & he straight saved our lives & i thank him for it. The time was super difficult, but God pulled us through and everything was fine! Now it's much better than fine! And I still see that doctor for all exams and, more so, I trust his thoughts on a variety of topics. He gets it. He gets me. We were an extreme case, and you won't have to deal with anything like that...
So what I am saying, I guess, is that if you like your doc - and he thinks natural - girl, you are just fine! He has done this many, many times and while some docs prefer something - you have to go with your gut & the opinion of the doc you trust. Mine was all business in a crisis situation & I will never forget it. He was yelling when it counted and got the job done and saved our lives. So pray it over - ask God for guidance where needed & don't worry because it's going to work out.
At the time I had my DD, the outlook was looking bad - and I was SCARED - but in this weird way I always knew it would be okay. That's where God comes in. He totally took care of us, and will take care of you. So try and see if you can trust in the knowledge that it will be just fine. I know it's spooky and you are apprehensive, we all are - but you will be fine :)
I believe in you and your family. You will make it no matter what!

I think you need to get onto the yahoo group for I-CAN (the international cesarean awareness network) because there are extremely helpful women in it from all over the U.S. who have hordes of research in regards to baby development in utero and childbirth and safe justifications for c-sections. I know several women on the list who can point you in the right DIRECTION so that you'll be informed from studies or from professionals who are OBbjective. You can even remain anonymous. It's very important for you to know that if you do need a c/s, it will impact all your future gestations (increasing risk of problems) and births (no birth center will take you, and most OB/GYNs will do repeat c/s even though their licensing organization, the ACOG, recommends against routine repeat c/s without any other justified cause).

I can't give you any more info. than that. Best wishes. Remember that YOU must advocate for yourself and your baby because no one else will. So you MUST put time into researching this. The ladies on the I-CAN yahoogroup list will save you time. Here's to gestating in peace! (Sorry about the original typos!)
