Yes, tacky.
I always get a gift card for the teacher and O. for the aide.
I am on my way in a few to pick up a school supply store gift card for teacher appreciation week, which was one of the suggested ideas. I was thinking about addressing the gift card to both the teacher and teacher's assistant since the supplies will be for the same classroom. Is that tacky?
Thanks!

Don't do that..... yes it is tacky in my opinion.
If you can't give both of them the same thing, then at least give the assistant some type of acknowledgement, even if it is a box of chocolates.
The teacher is the one who makes decisions about supplies; therefore I suggest that the card be addressed only to the teacher. I suggest it would be awkward if the assistant's name is included.
Don't do that. Just give the gift card to the teacher. Give the assistant a mug with candy or something. :)
Also - I gave the cutest, cheapest gifts ever this year! I bought 5 small glass vases at the dollar store for $1 each. I bought flowers (yellow daisys) at the grocery store for $5. My children and I cut the flowers down, pulled off the lower leaves, put the flowers in the vases and tied a ribbon around each vase.
For $10 I had super cute presents for each of the workers at my children's daycare - and my toddlers helped assemble them.
I think if the teacher and the assistant have been of help to your child, then by all means address it to both. Both the teacher and the assistant play a big part in the education of children. This will not offend a teacher who has a good assistant.
" I ain't your Mama" but if I was I would tell you to spend your money wisely. Your appreciation will be noted twice. So if your funds call for your decision to address the card to both, so be it. We are in a recession and supply and demand still applies to the classroom. So I think that you have tackfully hand the situation. Love always and forever. Mrs. R.
Teachers LOVE gift certificates from school supply stores! They use so much of their own money to provide for their classrooms. It would be nicer to give a gift to each person. They are from two separate households but spend all day together. I doubt they spend more time shopping together for school supplies. If anything, the teacher will end up with it, leaving the poor aid without anything of her own. Do separate gifts.
