I'd like to get some suggestions for a gift for a 1-year old girl. A new friend of mine invited me to her daughter's party and I need an idea for a gift. I think she already has tons of clothes and some toys (older boy siblings) but maybe there's some unique toy idea out there? Or something other than a toy? Thanks!

What can I do next?

I like the gift cert to a zoo idea! And you can put it with a book about animals like Brown Bear Brown Bear so there is something to open!

Books and a gift card to Toys R Us. At that age, my son was really starting to enjoy books, especially the "lift the flap" style. Add a gift card to it and she can go with mommy to pick-out something she would like!

Give the gift of an experience, a gift certificate to the zoo, the acquarium, a fun house, etc. Even at 1 they can really enjoy that sort of thing.

good luck to you and yours,

Definitely books - anything tactile (different surfaces like fuzzy or smooth or scratchy) or lift-the-flap books to encourage reading is a great gift that keeps on giving!

My kids were crazy for spoons at this age. We got a plastic set from Walmart that had a very rounded edge fork as well and that set has been a favorite for each of my kids. Sometimes one of them will hide it so that no one else can use it for breakfast. I should just buy some more shouldn't I? I also agree with the sunglasses idea. I have seen some super cute and sturdy toddler size ones in several stores.
