I'm looking for gift ideas for my 9yr old niece. She is a major tomboy and very active. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
My nephew just turned 10 and his very favorite thing was for me to get him a gift card to Target, then to take him for the day and go shopping!
I know some people don't like giving gift cards because they seem impersonal but I think It's like a double present, you get the gift card, then you get the quality time shopping and maybe some lunch while your out...you could make it an Auntie/Niece day out?
Girls of nine do love gift cards because they are really just developing their own sense of style and wanting a bit of independence. However, I am all about the experience. I love the idea of my neices and nephews remembering "that time we...". For that reason, I am inclined to lean more toward the movie and dinner , lunch and museum, picnic and apple picking or...maybe just take her shopping with the gift card. Something you DO together will last so much longer than the cool jeans she'll outgrow in a few months or the toy that will eventually get lost or broken.
I second the gift card idea, or even just cash. All of my nieces and nephews at that age drool for cash because they are usually saving up for iPods, Netbooks, some sort of electric scooter or bike, etc... My step-daughter is 10 and her gifts typically sit in her room unopened (no matter how great they are) - but the cash? She looooovves that! They are all about independence at this age, and buying their own things is the first step.
maybe some new athletic shoes? movie tickets for a fun day with you and dinner?
