My husband asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day and I am having a hard time coming up with something. I said I wanted a spa day but he wants to get me something that I can have for years. I already have a charm necklace with my son's name and birthdate. Any fun suggestions?
My oldest son was born the week before Mother's Day. My mom got be a rose bush and my husband planted it on Mother's Day - every spring when it blooms I remember how special it was when we planted it and my son loves that it's a reminder of his birth.

I think pandora jewelry is really neat..bracelets ,earrings or necklaces. The addons can be as expensive or inexpensive as you like and are very versatile. Just a suggestio. I hope it helps. -T.

Something neat and meaningful that I did for the two grandmothers for Mother's Day a few years ago was make garden stones with my two kids' hand prints, names and the year. They turned out quite pretty with the colored stones around the border. I kept thinking that I wish my husband would make something like this for me for Mother's Day, but haven't gotten one yet! (maybe this year!) Just a thought! :)

Some of my favorite gifts have been those that time stamp where we are as a family at the time of the gift.
One of my husband's favorite Father's Day Gifts was when I had the the kids pose for a Charcoal Sketch and then framed it. I do know they can often do the sketch off of a picture if you don't think your little one could handle it.
Another great idea is a Photo Book of the first year of your motherhood journey. You can do them on line at Snapfish, Walgreens - almost any on line service.

Hi S.!
Last year was my first Mother's Day, and my husband bought me a Willow Tree figurine that I absolutely love. I'm not much into knick nacks, but I like this line and the one he got me was called "Our Gift", a mom, dad, and baby. My mom and I both cried. It's something I will always cherish.
Happy Mother's Day!

I thought I wanted the same thing (spa day) but I got very beautiful picture frame with a space next to it with my daughters hand print. We have a place in our town called Clay Your Way. They have pre-made items that you paint/decorate yourself and then they glaze & fire them for you. I now have this adorable frame and hand print forever. I love it as much now as I did when I got it.

My husband got me a Coach purse and matching wallet for my first Mother's Day. It was definitely a splurge but it is an excellent lasting gift and makes me feel good. It makes me not feel so frumpy when I am in "mommy" mode and more like a woman, if that makes any sense.
I don't wear a lot of jewelry so I consider my purse my accessories.

If you like jewelry and charms, look into Pandora Jewelry. My father bought me a bracelet for Christmas and you can buy all different types of charms for all different occasions. And, I believe for jewelry, it's fairly cheap. Just $25 for charms...but they are so cute! You will have to check out their website to see where you can buy them around where you live...they are in fine jewelry stores! I wear mine all the time and just love it!
Something to memorialize the little one is always nice. The handprints/footprints ideas are great ones and you really will appreciate them in years to come.
For my son's first birthday we did pictures, of course, but I also had a separate picture with me and the baby taken for my husband specifically. He loves it. Thinking on that, I think it would be awesome to have a picture of the "boys" - husband and son - for mother's day. Something out of the ordinary - most men won't/don't do that - so it would be a great reminder of the boys in your life over the years.
If he got one done and had it nicely framed that'd be cool (I think so anyway).

My favorite gift would be the trees that I have gotten from my kids. I have three kids. On my first mothers day I received an ornamental flowering Lilac tree. The next two mothers days I received flower crab tress. The kids love this as much as I do. All three trees are planted in our yard, and they all flower around mother’s day. I love to take a picture with each child and myself in front of there tree each Mother's Day. Last year he bought me 3 huge outdoor plant urns. He had the kids each get into one of them and surprise me. I have done a special garden with all my cousins for my grandmother since I was little. There are now 23 grandkids and 14 great grand kids. Every year on Mother's Day we would get to go to the plant nursery and pick out what every type of flowering plant we would like. We then go back to grandma's house and plant them in the flower garden. She still looks forward to this special day every year. The older kids now help out with what ever outdoor chore she wants us to do, while the great grandkids plant flowers. I hope you have a great Mothers Day

How about a locket for your son's picture or a dad-made stepping stone with your son's handprint in it? You can get the kits at any craft store.

If there is a 'paint your own pottery' type of place nearby he could pick a plate or serving tray and have your boy's hand and foot prints put on that. Then it is something you could display in your home year round and even use for special occasions.

Personally, I'd still go for the spa day. It may not be something you can have for years, but it may be something that you won't have again for many years! ;) A spa day sounds really good right now.

If you live in a house a tree is always a nice everyday forever gift. I love to look out my window and see the tree that celebrates the fact that I am a mother of the best kids in the world. I also would love a spa day but also never got one. If you can't plant a tree where you live see if you can plant one somewhere in your town like a park where you take your son to play or where he will be going to school someday. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Go to Sears/Penny's/One-Hour Photo or anywhere and have your picture taken with your son. Just you and him. I do it every year with my daughter and it's the best Mother's Day Present ever - I get to enjoy it every day of the year and it's always a fun day for us. Granted you may not get a son to partake as he gets older as easily as you would a girl. However, what a special gift with your 10 month old son!! Enjoy your 1st mothers day!

Depending on how creative your hubby is and idea to build on is your son's hands and feet in concrete to use as landscaping. He would need to get a fun shaped mold (or the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket for round) and the concrete and get it ready and stamp your son's hands and feet into it. He would then decorate it. Every year he could make one for you and you would have landscaping rocks with love on them, that show how much your little one has grown.

I don't wear much jewelry, either. I have a mother's ring that I cherish and wear daily, like my wedding ring. It has two bands, one for my first three birth children, and another with the two stones for my adopted children. They are about a generation apart. The little kids love to look at the stones and find theirs, and ask which stone is for which adult child.

I always love to get (and they love to give) flowers--as in outdoor plants that I will have at least all summer. I really prefer perennials that I can look for each year. Mother's day comes at such a perfect time for asking for these. Maybe not instead of jewelry, but along with it :)
