These are all great ideas. As a preschool teacher myself, I treasure the notes I've received from parents throughout my 18 years of teaching. I've even included some in my portfolio if I ever left my current position. Yes, some parents make it a point to say Thank You every night when they pick up their child but to have it in writing is just wonderful. Some days, when I feel like giving up, I re-read the letters from the parents and it reminds me that I have made a difference. So, whatever you decide to do, please consider writing a letter telling the teacher how much you appreciate what she has done for your child.

As a Mom who worked in child care and education, I have to say that the letter will certainly be appreciated. I definitely agree that seeing it and having it is special. Also, with regards to gift cards and gift certificates, or for that matter any little token, attempt to find out from a co-worker perhaps what she likes if you don't already know. My sister was a school teacher for several years, and after Christmas every year, she inevitably spent time at the mall returning items that she could not use (skin sensitivity issues) or exchanging, when possible. Also, have you considered "making" a gift? Depending on how old your son is, you could allow him to help, or incorporate his hand print. Canvas bags from Michael's, Ben Franklin, etc. are relatively inexpensive and easy to decorate. You could use fabric paint to write her name, and then "trace" your sons hand print and write his name in the print or under the print. Perhaps add his age and the month/year. Another idea, if you're craft/creative would be to buy an undecorated picture frame from a craft store (A.C. Moore, etc.) and allow your son to decorate it (or you can if he's too small to help), and then put a photo of your son with her, or just your son, if you don't have one of him with her, in the frame. Tip: Your son's name and age should be on the back of the photo, along with the month/year it was taken. Also, that info could be put on the frame, as well as her name "Miss___" and a short message. Hope these ideas are helpful.

As a former teacher, I can assure you that she has plenty of coffee mugs and such.

The greatest gift is a gift card to Borders, Barnes & Noble, Panera, or Blockbuster.

You might also consider a true gift from the heart - donate a book to your public library in her name.

Whatever you decide, please write a note that tells her what she has meant to you!

As a teacher i can tell you the best gifts are gift cards. Good choices are movie gift cards or staples cards (teachers always need school supples). If the teacher likes coffee...wawa, starbucks, or dunkin donuts are good. Gift cards to bookstores are also appreciated. I would avoid restuarant cards unless you know where she likes to eat. I once got one to a resturant I hate. I appreciated the sentiment, but never used the card.

I don't have any ideas for a preschool teacher gift, except this. What about a personalized letter telling how much of a difference she has made in your sons life. Telling her how you feel about what she's done...etc? I know that if I got a letter like that and I was a teacher, it would be something I would charish. (I'd probably even cry) LOL
