A gift card to a bookstore would also be nice, they could use them for books, dvds, cds, whatever. Even if it's to a discount place like Half-Price Books.
I want to get my daughter's kindergarten teacher a nice, but not too expensive present. He has been a wonderful teacher all year and I just want to express my gratitude. What are some ideas?? I was thinking about a gift card to a restaurant, is that tacky? I can think of a bunch of things to get if he was a woman LOL And I don't want to get something generic like a coffee cup or something similar. Please help!
thanks for all the responses!! I went with a gift card to Chili's b/c the gift card can be actually be used at 4 different restaurants, so I figured he could pick his favorite that way! Gave it to him today, along with a card and a picture from my daughter and he gave me a great big hug! I'm so glad I went the extra mile to let him know how much he is appreciated =)

Gift cards are definitely best. We do not need any more coffee mugs or candles. I also liked getting note pads, you can never have too many of those!
I agree that gift cards are great. If your daughter can write a note (with your help), that is a bonus.
No way, gift cards to local food restaurants are preferred. Teachers spend so much time with our kids and prepping for class that a good meal that they can just pick up is a life saver. Coffee mugs are popular but tend to end up unused and donated to the local charity. Combined the gift card with a photo and note from your child about something she's learned or something nice she remembers about the teacher and you have the perfect gift. Thanks for being such a thoughtful parent.
A gift card to amazon is always nice....people can always choose to take a 15 dollar gift card and buy something (on sale or slightly used) so a 30 dollar item was purchased with a 15 dollar card or......a gift card to lakeshore learning or an educational site to use in his classroom would be a good idea! Have a great summer!

I'm sure the teacher would love a gift card to a local restaurant, or a gift card to a book store, or even Target or Walmart. Teachers spend a lot of their own money on supplies.
Even something simple as a card made by your daughter, or a card with a personal thank you message is appreciated.
What about a Starbucks gift card? A restaurant gift card is NOT tacky! He needs to relax and enjoy after a year of imparting wisdom, right?!
I know some teachers and they really get more mugs, candles and apple statues than they know what to do with! I think a gift card is nice, appropriate and appreciated--no matter the amount!
I am getting my son's teacher a gift card to the craft store b/c she provides many, many materials throughout the year that she has purchased with her own money.
ok, everyone had some good suggestions so far but coming from an actual teacher.... I taught 2nd grade for the past 8 years and just took this year off to raise our daughter.
I love gift cards to resturants, target, walmart, and my favorite starbucks. Most teachers go to starbucks before school. It was my Friday treat since I got to arrive 20 mins later than normal. My all time favorite gift was a week stay at a family's Georgia cabin. I'm not a huge fan of the bookstore gift cards because I order all my books from the book orders you see come home...they are way cheaper than the actual bookstores. I also loved cards with heartfelt messages better than any gift or gift card. Good luck and make sure that you and your child go back and visit the teacher each year to come. We love seeing how they grow.
I'm a teacher, and we LOVE giftcards! One for a restaurant would be great. Last year was the year I gave birth to my twins. I received three cards for restaurants. I loved it because it meant I could go out on a date with my husband! Ones for Walmart, Target, Barnes & Noble, and Starbucks are greatly appreciated, too!
A gift card would be perfect. Whatever you give - not a typical "teacher gift" like apples, coffe mugs - we have more than enough of those!!
Gift cards work; Starbucks, Lowes, or Home Depot. I made my son's kindergarten teacher homemade salsa (she loved Mexican food). She had my older son in kindergarten years ago and I thought she deserved something more for having taught two of my boys. Good luck. -- L.
Academy Sports and Outdoors gift card is always good. Restaurant gift cards are always good and everyone loves Starbucks gift cards. Or maybe a teacher store so he can get new games or supplies for his classroom. Supply budgets are being cut for teachers next school year and supplies are expensive!!
Hello,
For the male teachers my kids had, i would just get a gift card to Starbucks or Target, nothing too expensive but it was always appreciated.

Definitely a gift card. I teach at a university and actually got wine from a graduating student, but that's not an option for kg, LOL!!
I also come from a family of teachers, and those "teacher gifts" may be nice, but after the first year of teaching, every teacher has already received tons of them. They always love gift cards. Just make sure it's at a place that's accessible. With the economy so bad this year, I think I'll be giving my kids' teachers HEB gift cards for end of the year gifts--I'm sure they can use them! In the past I've given restaurant gift cards and local coffee shop gift cards.
Hi ! As a pre-K teacher myself and as a Mom and Grandma, I would suggest a gift card. Try to find out which stores, bookstores, or restaurants this teacher likes to use. A gift card to any of these places will be much appreciated. Judy K.
As an exTeacher of Kindergarten, YES gift cards. If you know his favorite store that would be great (personally I always hoped for a Specs card LOL). But I agree with others restaurants are best, or theater/movie gift cards but absolutely NO COFFEE MUGS I still have a cabinet shelf full!!!
My d-i-l is a first grade teacher and she LOVES restaurant gift cards. Also, cards to teacher supply stores (like Mardel) are appreciated. (You'd be amazed what teachers have to pay for).
I don't think a gift card is tacky at all! At least there are gift cards that offer several restaurants on one card so he can choose from those selections or just one in general or how bout a shopping type gift card like to target or walmart or some other store in your area? I think it's a fine idea & at least w/a shopping gift card, he can get what he needs or something he'd like or if it's a restaurant, he can bring his wife or a date if not married. I think it's a fine & appropriate gift. Hope this helps!
i think that would be nice. something that he can use and it dosent have to sit around all yr.
My moms group sold cookbooks with recipes from members, they were $10 and made nice gifts. You might find one cheaper than that. Try this link for more ides, lots are homemade and can be inexpensive. These are from http://www.tipjunkie.com/

I would be excited to get a gift card!
Good morning. I live in Canada and our teachers are always talking about the lack of funding they get for supplies for the classroom. We put together a gift basket with markers, crayons, stickers and the likes that the children would use. You could also purchase books for his class that he may not have. Hope this helps and have a great day.
