My son has attended "school" at the same place for the last two years. He started there when he was about 15 months, and is now a little over three.
The teacher he had this year is leaving the school, and I'd like to get something appropriate to say thanks. Although she wasn't actually his teacher through his first year, she was quite involved with him as they combined the toddler 1 and toddler 2 classes quite often. She's been wonderful to our boy, and she's a lovely woman. My son has spoken of her at least once a week for almost two years!!!
Any suggestions would be great.

Thank you all for your suggestions. What thoughtful ladies you are. I finally decided upon a gift card to Target, with a tube of my very favorite Burt's Bees hand lotion. I figured in the super dry Colorado climate that a teacher who works with young toddlers and changes diapers A LOT could likely use a really great hand lotion after all those hand washings. My son scribbled on the card and gave her a warm hug at the end of the day. We were so blessed to have this teacher! Thanks again ladies.
As a teacher, I can tell you that we appreciate all gifts given. But, the ones we appreciate the most are gift cards. Places like Target, Walmart, Starbucks, or anything else are so useful!
I made the teachers homemade cookies! The LOVED them. I always think homemade goods are such a nice way to say, Thank you so much! Or maybe a fruit basket. You can make them yourself!!
My mom always made sure that I gave my teachers something at the end of the year or if they were leaving. We usually went to the $ store or Kmart and tried to find a nice coffee cup and then my mom would make cookies or put some candy or coffee in the cup along with a card. My mom figures everyone can use a coffee cup even if they don't drink coffee they can use it for tea or hot chocolate or a pen holder.

Does she use flannel board stories in her classroom? That's what I gave my kiddos' teachers when they were younger and they seemed to really appreciate them. I actually design them myself and have a website if you are interested...

Teachers I know tell me that they LOVE LOVE LOVE gift cards to teacher supply stores, Target, Walmart, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Boston Market restaurant, Applebees restaurant, and tickets to the movies. My child asked the teacher this year what she would like and she said, "My fiance and I love to go bowling, roller skating, or go to a ballgame." We got her 2 tickets to see the Staten Island Yankees and the tickets include all you can eat, a t-shirt and a baseball cap. She was thrilled!!! Ask others at the school what her interests are--her friends know her best. Good Luck!
edible arrangements always are nice, but can be pricey. My mom was always real big on giving my teachers gifts. One year she got this white teddy bear that came with permant markers. I got to color on it, and write a note to her on it. I just thought it was the coolest thing. =)
Put yourself in the position of the teacher...imagine all of the trinkets, coffee cups, apple shaped candy dishes etc that she/he has received over the years!! Go for something that she can really enjoy...a gift certificate to a restaurant, or a gift card to Barnes and Noble or a School Supply Shop. And tuck in a little something that your son has made himself....maybe take a picture of the two of them together and have him help you decorate a picture frame for it...make one for him and one for her!! They can both enjoy the memories!!
I always write a letter of appreciation for them to put in their permanent files. You may want to do that...
She can use it forever AND she can look at it when she's had a really bad day.

My Aunt was a teacher and she always ended up with so much "stuff". She actually gave some to my mother and I for a yard sale once (not being ungrateful for what she got, but it was seriously a ton of stuff and most of it was not useful). For my kids teachers, I like to get a thank you card and write a personal note inside, telling the teacher specific things that I loved about him or her and what I loved about what they did for my child that year. I tend to get very personal because as we grow up, we are SO shaped by our teachers and by the very specific things they have done. We even look back and remember how maybe our third grade teacher was responsible for teaching us to love to read. So whatever I see that the teacher has done and is responsible for in my child's life, I write, so that they will know that they are making a difference. I also get out the scrapbook stuff and let my kids make their teacher a card. I don't get in their way or tell them how to do it...I let it be only from them. So that's what we do! =) A gift of any kind is always nice, but to be able to tell a teacher the reasons WHY you love them seems so much sweeter. =)
A card made by your son with a note of apprecriation from you attached to a container of homemade baked goods. Or enclose a gift card (book store, target, or a local restaurant).
