Any gift ideas for an old friend?
I've been friends w/her for 25 years.
She's very au nauterale, dosen't wear makeup except some light blush on her b-day, plays soccer, has kids etc.
She adopts & rehabilitates stray animals.
What can I get her for her birthday?

What can I do next?

thingies to pull back her hair for soccer, a cool bag-for the beach, good sun screen, a dinner date with YOU!.

I have a friend I have known for over 30 yrs, and we no longer give gifts, we plan an "thing" to do together. and the non bday girl chooses. We have taken cooking classes, gone to vegas, gone to Roller Derby, baseball game, wine tasting etc... So much better than a thing that some one may not want.

Even the natural types like a nice manicure or mani/pedi. She can always choose French or clear polish, right?

I love giving edible fruit bouquets. They have a variety of sizes and price ranges.

Not sure if there is one near you, but it might be worth looking into......

I'm a natural type and there is nothing natural about polish and it's removal!

How about a nice lunch together at a fancy restaurant?

I found a book of poetry about friendship a few years back that I passed along to a few of my close friends.

Hello, How about a gift card for a store. Maybe even a gift card for a pet store which carries supplies for the strays she takes in.

I think that the most special gift is a custom painting done by a local (or not local, I guess) artist. I have a couple artists that I like in particular. It can be somewhat costly but VERY special. I would say price range is $300-$1000). I don't know what your price range is, however.

A ticket and hotel voucher for her to go to a tropical island. Bali Island is a very cool place ( hahah...promoting my own country). It is quite cheap, though.

You can make a donation in her name to an animal rescue group.

If you have some time and if it's a milestone birthday for her, you might consider making a birthday book for her. For my friend's 40th birthday, I was able to get addresses and phone numbers of her family and friends. I asked them to write a little something about my friend for her birthday and mail it to me. Then I compiled all the birthday wishes, including my own, in a scrapbook, which I embellished with stickers, paper, etc. It took a little bit of time and effort, but she really loved it. Oh, and don't forget her spouse and kids!

If that is not something you'd like to do, how about taking her for a day out or an overnight trip somewhere close? My best friend and I will occasionally take a weekend, get our nails done, take in a movie, and spend the night somewhere, just to get away. It's a win-win for everyone.

You sound like a wonderful friend who knows her well. She's lucky to have such a thoughtful friend like you. Best of luck to you!

Take care,
L.

How about a massage and maybe lunch? Sounds like she could use the stress release.
