My nephew is a little older - 20months and I'm getting him a fisher price flashlight! He loves flashlights!!
I have no idea what to get my nephew for Christmas and my sister is not helpful with ideas. He has 3yr. old twin brothers who have passed TONS of clothes and toys on to him. Looking for ideas for things that are personalized...specific to him...new...etc. Any ideas? Hoping moms to multiple kids of same gender can offer some ideas...

What about sippy cup labels with his name on it?

Or a big toybox with HIS NAME and only his toys go in there?
A puzzle made out of his name? http://www.woodstation.com/

My 2.5 yr old LOVES flashlights too. Great suggestion Amanda W. WHen my son was 18 months old, I bought him a flashlight as an Xmas gift. Maybe you could put his name stnciled or painted on there somehow. BTW - needs to be a push button, not a 'twist the top' maglight. Those are hard for the kids to turn on and off w/o unscrewing the whole head off it.
I like the savings bond idea for all of them. You can wrap a book or two for under the tree.
Good luck, D.
maybe things like markers, paints, chalk, paper, bubbles, balls, playdough....
My boys are 4, 3, and 1. We are overrun with both toys and clothes (all of which we are entirely grateful for!), but space and sorting, organizing, and weeding out toys becomes an issue for us (me!), and I've started thinking of alternatives to gifts that would be great to get and give to others.
I think one of the move invaluable gifts is to give them something to DO, not necessarily to have.
Some things that I have recently suggested to those that are asking about gifts are:
-contributions toward their college/savings accts (every penny counts, right?)
-passes to Jungle Java or Pump It Up
-gift cards
-magazine subscription
-special one-on-one time with each of the kids (for example, a lunch date and to play at one of the indoor mall play structures, or chuck e. cheese, age appropriate of course)
-contributions toward a family membership to a museum, the zoo, etc.
I have run up against some "resistance" from some of my family members because they want to do/give them fun things and don't always want to be the practical ones, so I don't know if this helps you out or not. :)
This year, for my nieces & nephews, we're giving them a pair of warm fuzzy socks with a bill of money in it. Not the most "fun" gift, but simple and practical works!
At Target I saw personalized books that were by the photo counter. They use the child's picture in them, not just their name. I thought it was a great concept!
Things that get "used up" might be a good idea, too. Like the Crayola wonder marker sets. I am not sure what else there is exactly for a child his age as far as a "craft" goes, but the markers at his age would be great.
Cooking toys were one of my sons favorite toys around that age. And since some people still think of those as "girl" toys, no one thought to get it for him. We did not have space for a kitchen, so we got him a little grill and a package of food that came with hot dogs, hamburgers and corn on the cob. He loved that thing! And fortunately now there are many gender neutral options out there. At almost five, playing restaurant with his little sister is still a favorite game.
Another option is a personalized sippy cup. My daughter got one with her name on it. You could get the plate, bowl and silverware too. It'll be something use and love, without adding to the mountain of toys.
I also love the idea of books. Recently my son got a personalized book. He was added to the story and so was his sister (she just turned 2). The love that Spiderman story. I am sick of reading it, but they get such a kick out of being in the story. Disney has a line of the personalized stories too. My friend found it online and said the price was pretty reasonable.
Get Him a id bracelet or just a bracelet with a necklace. something specific he likes. A fisher price camera.
start a bank account for him (if he doesn't already have one) so he will have money for college.......a suitcase, even if he only stays the night at grandma's it is nice for them each to have their own suitcase (no fighting over who gets to carry/pull it).....something with his name on it (robe, towel, clock, etc.)......puzzles
good luck
What about a personalized bath towel and some awesome bath toys? Pottery Barn Kids has some great towels to choose from.
I have 3 going on 4 boys, and I'm not helpful with presents either because I have NO idea what to say. They literally need NO toys because we're just overwhelmed with boy toys. I would say get him some books. Those are one of the few things you can't have too many of. As he gets older, see if he likes something that his brothers' didn't: construction trucks, basketball, anything that is different from what phases his older brothers went through. That should give you some ideas. Or, make a donation to his college plan. That really is my favorite gift of all!
