Gift Suggestions for Friend Who Is Doing Semester Abroad in Barcelona

Some ideas (other than Theresa N's, which are good, too!):

Travel packs of moist wipes (especially if they are antibacterial)
Gift card/certificate for an online photo shop so she can have a travel journal/album made with digital pictures (my sister made one of her trip to Greece so she could put her notes in next to the pictures and it looked so nice!)
Extra memory card/s if she has a digital camera
Purse-size journal/notebook
International calling card/phone card

Barcelona is gorgeous so I'm sure she'll have fun and just appreciate that you even thought of her, no matter what you send! :)

I would suggest a prepaid phone card, pre-stamped post cards with a few pre-addressed to your children, a plug "adapter" so her appliances will work abroad, maybe a Visa gift card, framed photo of your kids, collapsible water bottles, travel guide...

A travel guide with train and bus route info, popular weekend destinations, etc. Get one with a big map inside it. Lonely Planet ones are great. Also a phrasebook with popular translations, also a pocket size Spanish-English dictionary.

A nice backpack to put it all in and one of those re-usable water flasks to go with it!

I do like the idea of sending her off with a gift, but another idea would be to get the address that she will be living at and send her a gift while she is away. When I was abroad it was great to get some of my favorite snacks and letters/pictures from home. It would be fun for your kids to take some pictures or draw her some pictures while she's away. Just a thought.

I googled Books About Tapas Bars in Barcelona and about a thousand guide books came up. I'm sure B&N, Borders, or even Amazon has a few. I would LOVE that if I were going to Barcelona. Course I would love to GO to Barcelona with or without a guide book!!
