My sister in law will soon be graduating from college and will be a registered nurse after graduation. Both my mother in law (her mother) and I are trying to come up with gifts that are special and will mean something to her. I am hoping that someone out there can give me some gift ideas that may be good for a nurse or be helpful in her soon to be career.
Thanks

When my brother in law finished his Paramedic degree and training, we got him a really high quality stethoscope and had it engraved with his name and graduation date.

I am a nurse also. I would suggest: A nice stethescope (not a cheapie), a pair of Dansko clogs, a piece of jewelry, an engraved picture frame (for a graduation photo), gift certificate to a scrubs store, spa gift certificate (nursing school is brutal!). She will appreciate anything as long as it is from the heart. :)

There are a lot of fun gifts for a nurse to be. Depending on how much $ you wish to spend and what field of nursing she will be going into. But generally speaking here are a couple of ideas:
*A watch (with a seconds hand if not digital)
*A badge holder
*Scrub set or scrub top with personalization (You can get embroidery done through a number of scrub stores online like allheart.com)
*Good shoes-which every nurse should invest into
*If all fails, get a gift certificate to a store that sells scrubs-you can never have too many scrubs :-)

Hope this helps. You can always look on allheart.com for ideas.

Victoria:

Hello! Happy Easter!

How sweet of you two to want to make this GREAT occasion with something special!

I would get her her own stethescope. I know you can get some quality ones out there - yes, they are a little pricey, but this is a GREAT thing! They also have tags on them - you can get hers engraved or a special tag for.

Depending upon her speciality - you could get her a pair of scrubs. A pair of Danzco (or Dansko/Dansco) shoes - they may not be pretty - but she'll be on her feet all day and a pair of shoes that keep your legs and back from aching will be MUCH appreciated.

There are books out there, depending upon her speciality that would be thoughtful too.

I hope these ideas help!

Take care!

Hi Victoria, How about an engraved stethescope or a lab coat with her name and RN behind it.

How about a stethoscope? My sil is a nurse too and she always complains about her stethoscope. It's not a really good one, and she keeps losing the ear piece when she cleans it. I actually might get her one for her birthday or Christmas. I've looked and a decent one can cost about $70. Of course there are much nicer and expensive ones. Not sure what's your budget, but I think this would be a great gift.

I would say a stethascope but depending on what type of nursing she goes into, she may want to get her own. You could ask what her dream scope would be. Nurses have to supply their own scrubs. My suggestion would be a nice watch that has a second hand on it, or an electronic one that has the ability to time seconds on it.

I would say an Ebay gift certificate for all the different Nursing supplies she will need and can pick out herself at a decent price. The proper tools is the key to any endeavor- and saving $$$ while you're at is, even better.

I know this wouldn't be personal and have much meaning, but I do know that scrubs can be pricey. A gift certificate to a store that sells scrubs and other nursing attire (their shoes are expensive) would probably be much appreciated.

When my sister got her master's in nursing a year ago, we found a couple of nice books that dealt with the spiritual side of nursing. I don't know if that would appeal to you and your sister, but they were easy to find at Barnes & Noble, and I'm sure you could also find some online.

Browse through the catalog at www.advancehealthcareshop.com. As a nurse, I get the Advance for nurses magazine and they have some cute gift ideas in it. Also, consider giving a gift certificate to a uniform store, so she can pick out scrubs for work. They also have the book "Chicken Soup for the Nurses' Soul", which might be nice. Maybe create your own gift basket with all of these things in it. Hope this helps.

If she doesn't already have one a good Littman Stethoscope. They are a little expensive but the best! You can get an engraved name tag to clip on the scope. You can get scrubs personalized. Also, a GOOD pair of shoes for on the job. It will depend on where she works on what she'll be able to wear. A journal might be a good idea too. She will need a positive outlet to release the stress of her days.
