It is hit or miss for my kids. Some teachers do and some don't. It is so sweet when they do, but never expected.
Talking w a teacher friend of mine from another district she said she buys her students a small gift before winter break, Thinking back my kids teachers did that in 2nd grade but I think that's the only time, jJust wondenered, do your k, 1st, 2nd, 3rd grade teachers give little somethings to the kids?

I'm a pre primary (2 year olds) teacher assistant and I give books to the kids in my class :)
In elementary school, most of the teachers gave each child in their class a book for Christmas and usually a treat. At one time Scholastic Books used to give teachers a percentage of the book orders generated in class and they used that to buy books for the classroom or for gifts. Now that many PTA's have taken over and had larger book fairs, I don't know if the teachers earn book credits.
My boys received small gifts from their teachers when they were in k-4th (youngest is in 4th now). I teach 11th/12th, and give my students pencils with a note about how much I enjoy having them in class.
Some do and some don't, I don't expect it though, teachers don't make much money and that is a lot of kids to buy for. And many teachers already spend ton out of pocket. I know my sister never had the budget for art projects so she was often buying art supplies for her class out of her own pay.
As an elementary school teacher (preschool to grade 6), I always gave books.
Some did. Most of the time it was something very simple. A Christmas tree ornament that the child was able to personalize in some. On these occasions, the teacher had a tree in her classroom, they did the ornament as a craft, and on the last day before the break (when they had their holiday party) they were given the ornament to take home with them.
Others were more elaborate: a stocking with a doll in it for girls, or an action figure of some sort for boys.
Some were just simple candy canes decorated like reindeer.
I remember back when I was in third grade (this was oh.... 35 or so odd years ago)... our teacher crocheted scarves for us and gave us. The girls got white and the boys received blue. They were very simple, but so special. :)
I would imagine it varies, too, depending upon if it is a private or a public school. I know there seemed to be more flexibility for such things in private school.
For my kids, SOME of the Teachers, did that.
But it is not expected. By my kids or me as a parent.
All year round, Teachers routinely... buy things themselves, for... their students and classrooms, and they are not rich.
Elementary school is typically Kindergarten through 5th grade.
At the school my kids go to, some of the Teachers may get their students something. Even if that is just a holiday printed pencil.
But again, it is not expected.
Can you imagine... buying things for some 23+ students per classroom?
That it a chunk of change. Even if Teachers get professional discounts at some places. Plus they have their own kids or family, to shop for.
My son did not get a gift in K. He's in first now... we'll see if he gets anything at the end of the week, but I am not expecting anything at all.
I know some teachers who give each kid a book - usually something they have gotten with their Scholastic points. I've never heard of anything else. I don't remember ever getting a gift from my teachers growing up.
I teach 4th grade, and I have a book and a pencil for each of my students.
Hmmm..I don't remember. My kids don't respect books, in my opinion. They have about 500 so to get a new one, I'd feel bad if the teacher spent a lot of money.
I get the teacher a nice gift, though. They deserve it!!!
When I was a classroom teacher I didn't really give my students anything more than a winter themed pencil and maybe a few pieces of candy. I had a lot of students who did not celebrate Christmas. I also just couldn't afford to spend more than a dollar or two for that many kids. If I could get a bunch of cheap books through Scholastic book orders I sometimes gave them each a book.
Yes, usually they get a book ,candycane,or a smencil or something like that . 1st grade they got a jingle bell necklace (easy to make). Its not usually a big gift just something .
Candy. A candy cane here, a few Hershey's Kisses there.
