Ok folks, about 3 or 4 of my girl friends and I are looking at taking a girls only trip. Any suggestions that would be practical (like trying to stay in the continental US) and fun? We were thinking of going to Napa, CA, but just not sure.

TIA

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your suggestions, they were awesome. The jury is still out, but after doing some research, we've discovered that it costs almost as much to do a trip, hotel & airfare, within the continental US as it would be to go to an all-inclusive resort in the Carribean or Mexico, so that's looking really appealing.

As for why we aren't inviting the males in our lives is because 2 of the 4 of us are married, but I think it's important for women and men alike to get away and have their own time away from their signifcant others. Not that I personally don't like spending time with my hubby and I do enjoy traveling with him, but still really enjoy the company of spending time with my girlfriends and getting back to just being a woman and not just a wife and mother. I think the recharge is a great thing too!

Mexico would be great for the reasons you mentioned. I had a great girls weekend once in Nashville as well. All the music, arts and food were wonderful there. San Antonio is always good. Napa is a blast, but the downside is it is expensive and you have to drive everywhere. Wine tasting then driving is not a good idea! I am thinking an all-inclusive to Mexico might be the best of all worlds.

Have fun wherever you land!

Girls only trip? Why? You women don't like your husbands? Or are you divorced and don't have husbands?

My sisters-in-law and my MIL all wanted to have my wife go with them on a girls only cruise. I had never been to the places where they were going to and I wanted to go too. The SILs and MIL said it was only for the girls. I said why don't you invite your husbands and we'll al have lots of family fun. (I knew they wouldn't like that because my wife is the only one of the girls that is still married.)

Well, they went without me and had lots of fun, some ribald fun. I stayed home and watched all 8 of our kids. Watching the kids for a week was no big deal. (It was the easiest job I've ever had.) The big deal was not going on vacation with the beautiful girl I love and adore.

Making memories together as husband and wife, is a wonderful way to strengthen a marriage. Making separate memories is a good way to drive a wedge in an otherwise good marriage.

For several years our friends would ask my wife and I how much I liked our cruise. I would look at my wife and ask, "Yes dear, tell them how much fun we had on your cruise." Part of the answer became how I wasn't invited to go.

I hope you decide to strengthen your marriage and invite your husband to go with you. Good luck to you and yours.

Napa is a lot off fun! New York City, Boston, San Diego, LA, Savannah Georgia, New Orleans.

Not sure if you want warm weather and when you are going. Miami is nice as well. Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head are great beaches.

San Antonio, San Marcos.

I love to travel! Have a wonderful time and let us know where you decide to go.

What about Vegas? I went for the first time last October for a wedding and had a great time (better than I expected!). I don't drink or gamble and still had a blast! Lots of shows, good food, etc. The flights are usually cheap (I think the tourism bureau subsidizes the air travel) and hotel rooms are gorgeous and very reasonable (we stayed at the Mandalay Bay). You don't really need a car. We did rent one one day and drove to the Hoover Dam.

Other Suggestions:
San Diego
New York
Boston
Sanibel Island, FL

My BFF and I recently went to Florida. We took a short one night cruse to the Bahamas and stayed there a couple of days, and then we went back to Orlando and did a couple of the theme parks (disney and universal). It was a blast!

Love San Diego for the beach and things to do. Love Chicago for shopping, shows, and museums. Love Minneapolis and St. Paul for theater, dining out, shopping, and outdoor activities. Depending on the time of year it would be fun to go to Door County, Wisconsin. Also love the Apostle Islands in Northern Wisconsin. Love the Amana Colonies in Iowa. Absolutely love Yellowstone and the mountains in Wyoming. Love Denver, Colorado Springs, and Estes Park, Colorado. I know of a great winery in Kentucky and would love to go during the Kentucky Derby.

A lot would depend on what time of year we were going and what we wanted to do. Are you looking at going to shows, shopping, tacky tourist things, wine tours, antiques and artsy things, staying in and gossiping, spending time outdoors? Do you want to go to one destination and stay put or do a road trip? Depending on which group of friends I was going with would greatly influence where I would want to go.

If I were doing a trip with my girlfriends - a 4-5 day trip - 2 days in Los Angeles 1 day at Santa Monica Beach/Pier and one day shopping in the Fashion District (Saturdays are the best day to show in the District). Then fly Vegas and catch a show.
Extended Stay hotels in LA are great and reasonably priced. There are very inexpensive flights from LA to Vegas - like $59.

I have done both of these activities but never one after another. If you have any questions about either location, just ask. I have lots of tips!

I had a lot of fun on my girls' trip to New Orleans. We also took a trip to Lake Tahoe to go skiing that was a lot of fun Two of us were experienced skiiers and two were beginners and just took lessons. Everyone enjoyed it. New York City is a fun girls trip. One of my favorite trips was to Disney World. It's more fun without children. ;-)

What about Sedona, Arizona or Taos, NM? I think Napa would be a lot of fun too. Or a beach town would be fun.
