My husband makes similar messes when he cooks! Luckily, my father-in-law gave us some Cerama Bryte glass-ceramic cooktop cleaner, and it works like a charm. Don't know where he got it though, but you could Google. Happy cleaning!
My wonderful boyfriend should never be aloud to cook! I havent been on our new house more than six months, and we have a brand new glasstop stove that is disguisting! The few times he had to cook for himself he let it boil over and burn on the stove. I can not get it off. I have tried everything including the new Mr.Clean erasher and nothing. Do any of you wonderful ladies have any idea how to give it that new look again?
I love this site! Thanks to all moms. I will be going to the store to find the stove top glass cleaner and keeping my boyfriend away for the stovetop, lol. Thanks again to all the moms everyone so so helpful on here.

there is a special cleaner w/scrubber pad that they sell just for glass top stoves, it takes anything off w/o scratching.
I found my at walmart or kroger in lebanon.
There is a special cleaner for the glass top stove, you can buy it at Lowes or Home Depot. I forget what it's called but is recommended for the glass top stoves. You have to be very careful what you use. My mother in law ruined the top of her stove using products that weren't intended for it.
At Home Depot they have something called Cerama Bryte and its for glass cooktop stoves. You just put a bit on the dirty area, let sit for a while and then use a Mr Clean sponge and elbow grease and it should come off. Tell your beloved that he ought to clean up the spills as soon as the stovetop is cooled down. You're not the maid!!! LOL!!! Thats what I tell my Hubby and he just rolls his eyes at me!! Also keep a razor blade (the old fashioned kind that are two sided) and hold it at a shallow angle and you can gently scrape off some of the burnt mess.
Oh my goodness-----not suppose to use any thing but a soft cloth or sponge and the special cleaner they make for the glass tops, along with a razor blade knife to scrap the burnt food off first and then the cleaner . You can get the glass cleaner from Sears!!!
good luck
I agree with the cerama-bryte. When we got ours my husband made a MESS and my mother-in-law brought over the cerama bryte and they make a scraper that works wonders (probably much like the razor blade but safer :-)
We have a glasstop as well, and I find that a mild abrasive, such as barkeeper friend, scrubs the crusty gunk off just fine. I never have had a problem with it ruining anything...it's glass! I just sprinkle a tad on the grime and rub with a soaked sponge.
We have a stove like yours. When we moved in to our house, it was all crusty. I went to the local Meijer store and got Range Kleen Smooth Cooktop Cleaning Kit. I really had to work hard on it, but it came off with this stuff. Good luck.
Perhaps contact the manufacturer. They might have cleaning solutions that will not ruin the surface of the glass.
I have used a baking soda and water paste to remove dyes from kool-aid on my counters. Maybe something like that would work. I would be hesitant to use a lot of products on the market in fear it would scratch the surface...?
You have to use glass cook top cleaner. I think I got mine at Walmart. My brand is Wieman. They are the only thing that works!
on my glass top stove i use something called cook top it is by weiman. in a white bottle, got it at walmart, it works real well good luck
You need the glass stovetop cleaner. You can find it anywhere from Walmart (or any store like that) to Home Depot to Sears Appliances. Get a non-scratch pad with sponge on the opposite side. Squeeze the cleaner on your stove and use the scratch pad side to spread around. You may need to let it sit for a minute to absorb then scrub. It should come clean but may take alittle since you haven't done it in two months. Then wet the sponge and wipe it down. Do not fear, I have even accidentally set a plastic lid on the hot element, this comes off nicely after the element cools. I was hysterically thinking I had ruined ours too. Good Luck!
I'm a fan of baking soda and vinegar paste. It bubbles off a lot of the crud. The other thing I like is by method, it's a marble based light abrasive. It gets the baked on crud off much better. Hope it helps!
When we first had our house built we used nothing but the "glass top stove cleaner" that actually CAME with the stove! Since then, we have bought it here and there and you can find it at any store. Look in the detergent, cleaning isle. Our house is almost 5 years old and I actually have forgotten to use the appropriate cleaner for the last several years and my stove is still ok. I don't recommend it but its not the end of the world if you cannot find it for a while. It does do the best job and that is what it is supposed to be cleaned with, however.
BARKEEPER'S FRIEND is the best. It is a powder that comes in a gold, cleanser-type can. It is great for glass top stoves and so many other things too. You might need to let it soak with a little warm water on the surface if it is a really baked on mess. If you use a scrubby sponge make sure it non abrasive or you could ruin the cook top. Good Luck!
I agree with previous post. It's a white milky substance and you just pour it on, let it sit a minute then you have to rub a little with a cloth or paper towel(I found that dry works best). It takes a little work but usually comes up sparkling. They also make wipes that work for the smaller messes and daily cleaning. You're not supposed to use most other cleansers because they can damage the surface so be careful. I have found them at Kroger.
Hi C.! I also have a glass stove top with gas burners. I always clean mine with baking soda. I just pour a pile of soda in my sink and use a wet cloth to scoop up some soda and start scrubbing. It usually works really well. If it's really burned on, I would let it soak with a soda paste to soften it up. Good luck!
You'll need a single edged straight razor. I spray the top down with a cleaner and let it soak for a few minutes, then take the razor and carefully run across the top to remove all the "yuckies". Make sure the top is still very wet or you will scratch the surface. If it is really bad, you may have to do this a few times. Then once all the cooked on stuff has been "razored" off, clean it with the shine stuff for glass top stoves and it will be good as new.
Good Luck!!
Before you use the glass top cleaner, do this first, it works GREAT! Warm up (do one at a time) the burner for maybe 5-10 seconds, then squirt the cleaner on it and wipe clean with a damp towel or washcloth. It takes a little scrubbing, but heating it up first cuts the scrubbing time down tremendously
I use soft scrub with bleach. It works every time!!!
We use the glass top cleaner and every now and then if it is really stuck on my husband uses a razor blade.
You really shouldn't use anything other than cleaner for a glasstop stove. Especially the Magic Eraser. It can scratch the top and then it will never be the same! I agree with the woman that said to heat the burner up just a little bit. You can even spray it with water as it's heating. Take a damp rag, help with a pair of tongs, and continuously wipe the burner until it comes clean. It may take awhile, but it is the only thing that I've found that works.
I would go to a place that sells these kind of stoves and see what the manufacturer suggest to use in such a case. Then maybe you can allow him to cook again.
The razor blade sounds kinda dangerous to me, but my friend gave me a little scraper from Pampered Chef that works well. It's a brown flat plastic square and I use it with the glass top cleaner and a little water. Sometimes with fresh spills I put a little water on the area and let it sit for awhile and then it just wipes right off.
Hi,
I have a glass top stove and my husband does the exact same thing. It's annoying and endearing at the same time. (Hey- he's cooking dinner! lol!) I have found a simple, easy, and effective way to clean mine; all I use is water.
Just gently pour about two cups of HOT (I use boiling) water on the stove top and let it sit for awhile. When the water is cool enough, wipe it off with a towel. You may have to use a scrubby sponge for the really baked on stuff, but it will come off easily. The stove top will look be clean and sparkly.. To sanitize, I just use a quick spritz of my cleaner and I'm done. :-) Good luck.
i too have a glasstop stove and after being soooo glad that our house we were moving into (4 yrs) ago had a glasstop i know hate it b/c of how hard it is to sometimes get the burnt stuff off, i did find that the 3M glasstop cleaner scrubber works good, i found it at target for around $6 and it came with four cleaning pads. best luck and if you do find something really great let me know, i may also try a few of the suggestions posted already.
Shaklee's Scour Off.
It's awesome. I'm a distributor and just demonstrated it on my neighbor's stove. She had the same issue - couldn't get the burnt on stuff off for anything. I put some Scour Off on it, added some water and it came off with just a little elbow grease. She was amazed. Plus, Scour Off is from Shaklee's Get Clean line, which are green, all natural, non-toxic cleaning supplies that work like nothing I've ever seen. I have yet to find something that I can't get clean with this stuff!

PS If you're interested, but want to try it before you buy it, you may be able to find a distributor in your area that would be willing to come to your house to give you a demonstration. Just go to www.shaklee.net and type in your area!
You don't mention who the manufacturer of the stove is, but have you checked their website for cleaning ideas, products or instructions? There should also be a Customer Service number to speak to a live body... As a homemade remedy, I think the baking soda paste recommendation is the best suggestion here. I get a soft cloth wet, rub the baking soda around liberally, then cover the area with the wet cloth. Come back in about 15 minutes and wipe. If a large amount, but not all, comes off, well, repeat :) Good luck!
I have the same problem with my husband. He doesn't even attempt to wipe up the spills as they happen, which would save some elbow grease on me! I use the razor blade and glass stove top cleaner included with the stove. For the bad "boil overs" I place a damp hot rag on the "mess" before using the blade. Once cleaned, the cleaner/protector for glass tops should be applied. It helps with easy removal of future messes. Hope this helps.
ELBOW GREASE!! I have a cooktop also and ended up with a lot of burnt ons. (only I have no one else to blame) They make a cook top cleaner you can buy. My stove actually came with a bottle. I have used that with a soft scrubber over and over again. It takes awhile. Then the really tough spots I use a small perry knife to scrape what is left. But don't use the knife on a dry surface, scrape the knife with the cleaner or soapy water. Good Luck
I have always used the razor blade and glass stove top cleaner that was included with the stove.
