Hi P., I have never been on one of these sites before, but here goes.....
I too have an 8 year old (girl), she has always needed her sleep.
Here is a look in to what our routine is,feel free to use/improvise with any of it, I have just found that it works for us:
we have always made time for 'wind down time' shower/bath by 7pm, pick a book or even flash cards or spelling words for test (homework) quick tidy up around the house (her things need to be picked up and put away in her room--does not always happen!) then into bed by 7.30pm (now she is getting older she has asked for an extension on bed time, on her 9th bth, it will be extended 30 mins) then we take turns reading one of her books, testing on spelling or going through flash cards, we then end with best/worst part of our day, lights out at 8pm. If I have a lot of chores to do around the house,ha! thats a joke! then she can read to herself for 30 mins, then I go in and say goodnight. I leave for work by 6am so Dad gets her up, usually around 6.30am (they leave the house at 7.25 to get to school on time)it takes her a long time to get going in the mornings, sometimes I will leave her a note asking her to empty the dishwasher before she leaves (sometimes that does not happen, so when we are home from school that afternoon , it is the one of the first things to be done.) Boy, an I long winded----I LOVE details... lol I hope you can maybe take at least something from this 'book' and get some ideas...... I have just turned the dreaded '40' have one husband (wouldn't be able to deal with more than that!) one beadgle mix named Tinker

Hi P.,

I am a 34 y/o soon to be 35 y/o sahm of 3 boys. I had all 3 of my boys on a routine by the time they were a year old. Until my oldest hit about 11 or so it was in bed at 8:00 or 8:30 at the latest and up by 7:00 or 7:30. However, my 2 youngest boys seem very happy going to bed at 8:00 and they are usually up between 6 and 6:45 by themselves.

Hope this helps.

S.

Hi P. -
I have a 9 yr old son who has to be at school at 8am. I find that if he is not asleep by 8:00pm, he doesnt do very well getting up in the morning nor getting ready for school.
I start to wake him up just before 7am. He likes to take his time and stretch believe it or not! We live fairly close to school and need to leave the house by 7:45 - 7:50.
Hope that helps you out a bit.

I have a 9 year old son and he goes to bed at 9pm. Sometimes it gets a little late and it gets pushed to 9:30-10:00. But he is fine waking up in the morning. It all depends on your son as well. I also have a 3 and 8 year old and they all go to bed at the same time. I know the little one probably should be getting more sleep but I get home pretty late also and my schedule does not allow that. It really depends on your schedule and how well he does in the morning. If you see that he is dragging then maybe more sleep is better.
