Just asked my daughter 1st grade...she said "Aliens wear underpants"...she said it's her classes favorite that their teacher read to them.
Never read it but she loves it apparently. Big grin and no hesitation to answer.
Hi Moms!
I am in need of some suggestions for a book to read to my daughter's first grade class. I am the mystery reader and thought anyone with a first grader could share their favorite stories..We have a huge bookcase full of stories and I just can't decide!
Thank you!!!

When I got my turn to read to my son's first grade class, I read two of the Froggy books (Froggy learns to Swim and O. other). The class loved them.
They have lots of examples of Onomatopoeia and you can tell them what that is and have them listen for examples (swish, flop, etc.)
And you probably can't go wrong with a Skippy Jon Jones book!
Have fun!
How about letting your daughter decide? Maybe she could pick a favorite for you.
"If you give a mouse a cookie"
"The Giving Tree" might be appropriate for this time of year.
I would ask you daughter to help you choose.
Ask the school librarian -- they live for these kinds of questions!
Have fun being the mystery reader!
The 'Ready Freddy' series is about a first grade boy and his experiences with life. The characters include girls and boys. They are chapter books with a few picures here and there.
My first grade boy loved them.
Elephant and Piggie-- There is a Bird on Your Head, Watch Me Throw a Ball
I always read Russian Fairy tales to children. They have never heard any of them before and they are exciting to listen to.
I second "The Giving Tree" if it doesn't make you cry! We also love "The Missing Piece" around here. "Skippyjon Jones" series is a biggie too and so is Babar! The Froggy books have long been favorites too. We have most of them, and my 5 year old loves them (but Froggy and his friends are definitely more 1st-3rd graderish).

Anything by Mark Teague, PERFECT for 1st grade sense of humor, and AWESOME pictures!
Our faves are Frog Medicine and Pigsty.
