I read a book to my daughter Alanna (13 mo old) every night before bed and am getting pretty tired of "Goodnight Moon", and Dr. Seuss, I am looking for some new books.. does anyone have some good recommendations?

What can I do next?

Hi Y.,

My firend introduced me to a cute book called, "Click, Clack, Moo! Cows that type." It's really cute and there is at least one other in the "series". It's called, "Click, Clack, Quack!"

It's funny, quick and has cute illustrations.

Good luck!

I also recommend any book by Laura Numeroff (Give a Pig a Pancake, Give a Mouse a Cookie, and many more). The illustrations even captivated her attention when she was 10 months old. Also look for "How Does a Dinosaur Say Good Night". It's a new one we started reading at bedtime and she thinks it's pretty cute. Happy Reading.

I know later on the Dick and Jane series are really good books to help teach them how to read.
I would basically go to the bookstore and look at the books, find ones with very little words and not small text...those seem to be best if the child doesnt have a long attention span. We had several of those..along with ones with pictures and it said what it was and my son learned what certain things were and could tell me easily.
Also the Spot books are good too.
We have one book called "I Love You Through and Through" by bernadette Rossetti-Shustak....also "Love You Forever" by Robert Munsch.

Look for "Run away Bunny" and others by the same auther. There are several great books out there by those authors. You could also try the "I Spy" books. Or the spidre collection of books. Look for books with little words and bright pictures. They are usually the best.

For my daughters 2nd birthday we got her two books by Todd Parr called "The Feelings Book" and "The Okay Book".

They are cardboard books that are very colorful and bright. They are basically about telling kids that their feelings are alright no matter what they are and also that it's always ok to be unique.

My kids love them. My 5yr old son even likes to read them to my little girl. I think they're a good purchase.

There are so many great kids books out there! I would definitely stick with board books for now, and most books have a board book version. We love Eric Carle (Very Hungry Caterpillar, Papa Please Get the Moon for Me), Patricia Boynton (The Going to Bed Book, etc), Clifford the Big Red Dog, Curious George. The Olivia books are adorable. My 2 year old loves lift-the-flap books. He loves pop-ups too, but you have to supervise closely. Touch and feel books are also great. Books of songs are great too, we have a couple of Raffi ones (Wheels on the Bus). We love to go to Barnes and Nobel, they have a train set in the kids' section, and you can browse the books and get some ideas. Also, check your library, they should have board books you can check out.

One other thing, my 2 year old loves to read the same books over and over. So while you may be bored with your books, your daughter is probably not! I've even gone so far as hiding the books after reading them about 14 times in one week! Have fun!
