It's going to depend on if you want something light and fun? The books by E. Griffin are fun (Something Borrowed, which is a movie now). She has a couple in the series.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series is excellent.
The Help by Kathryn Stockett is very good.

Those should get yous tarted, along with what other moms will also recommend! Have fun!

What kind of story do you like?

Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Inheritance series, The Wheel of Time series, the Twilight Saga, The Princess Bride, Interview with the Vampire, The Monkey's Paw, A Cask of Amontillado, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Storm Born, The Island of the Blue Dolphins, The Outsiders, They Cage the Animals at Night, Of Mice and Men, The Cage, Night, Dawn, Day, The Notebook, Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, Emma, Sense and Sensability, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, The Odyssey, The Iliad, Till We Have Faces, The Lost Symbol, The Da Vinci Code, Angels and Demons, Nectar in a Sieve, The Great Gatsby, The Crucible, The BFG, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Tuesdays with Morrie, A Separate Peace, and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn are all stories I've either read or plan to read.

The Cage and Night are both memoirs of Holocaust survivors and They Cage the Animals is a true story about a little boy who spent several years in and out of orphanages and foster homes. The Outsiders is actually set in my hometown and written by a fellow Tulsan.

No wonder I'm used as a walking library and people say I've read everything. After all, I've got a NOOK in my purse.

You might like THe Help plus it's being made into a movie.

If you just want some short quick reading to get you started, I would recommend Listening is an Act of Love by Dave Isay. If you ever listen to NPR and know about the Story Corps, there they take an airstream.. mommy brain.. trailer?? RV?? bus thing??? with a recording studio in it, and go around to different cities and everyday people sign up to go record their stories or what ever the heck they want. I LOVE this concept, I guess they broad cast the ones that give presmission and i think you can listen if you go to the story corps website or NPR if you can't find the other.
here is the blurb.---
StoryCorps founder Dave Isay has selected some of the most remarkable stories from our already vast collection and arranged them thematically into a moving portrait of American life.
I thought it was pretty great.

If you want something light and you don't mind swearing and a bit of sex, i like the JD Robb books Memories in Death, Innocence in death. think law and order set in the future, with a woman cop.

have fun.

I just started reading a book called "There's an Adult in my Soup". I love it because it has very short chapters and the amount of time I get to sit and read a book is not very long. I still feel like I get to read, but not sitting there for hours at a time.
I also agree with Stacey G. regarding the E. Griffin books. Very good!!

"The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova. It's a quick read, because each chapter makes you want to move onto the next. Great if you like vampire lore and European history and a horror undertone.

"Bossypants" by Tina Fey was a hysterical book, good for a laugh and it's a quick read.

"Another Day in the Frontal Lobe" by Katrina Firlick, MD is a really interesting book about the author's experiences as a neurosurgeon. Believe it or not, it's really funny!

Enjoy your reading journeys!

I second 'The Women' by TC Boyle (He also wrote an amazing book called Budding Prospects but if you're not interested in the Mendocino weed industry, give it a pass)

'Shantaram' by Gregory David Roberts (it's LONG but worth it)

'Water for Elephants' was so poorly written that I gave it to Goodwill after reading three pages. If you still want to read a book about circus life I suggest Katherine Dunn's 'Geek Love' - totally weird and exciting and WAY better written than Gruen's attempt.

Hi E.,

I loved reading the Twilight series by Stefanie Meyer:

Twilight
New Moon
Eclipse
Breaking Dawn

She also wrote another book, The Host, that I enjoyed.

Also loved the Stieg Larsson trilogy:

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
The Girl Who Played With Fire
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest

Now I'm reading a trilogy by Suzanne Collins that my kids recommended to me, and I'm halfway thru the second book:

The Hunger Games
Catching Fire
Mockingjay

I also love Jane Austen. Have fun!

I'm reading The Help by Katherine Stockett right now and loving it. Also, Watermelon by Marian Keyes was great, especially for moms. I would recommend anything by Jodi Picoult but my favorite was 19 Minutes.

I am surprised by the commenter who didn't like Water for Elephants! It was fantastic! I have not met anyone who didn't love it! Prayers for Sale by Sandra Dallas, The Story Sisters (can't remember the author!), The Guardian or Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas by James Patterson, If you are an animal lover Anything by James Harriott is fantastic! I loved all the Scarpetta books by Patricia Cornwell also. They aren't as light as some of the others. Those are the ones that come to mind!

I know I am late but...

If you have never read it, try "She's Come Undone" by Wally Lamb. It is my favorite book and changed my life.

For just fun, try "The Nanny Diaries".

Right now I'm reading Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Series from Laurrell K. Hamilton! I feel like it's a vampire series made for "adults" compared to the Twilight Series. But I did like the Twilight Series. The books are about a chick who hunts vampires and other creatures! I like this series because the character Anita Blake is a kick butt kind of chick! :)
