Good Family TV Show

Hi all,
I am looking for a new tv series to watch - preferably on Netflix or Hulu but cable is okay also. I have a 4 year old girl and 8 year boy and would love to find something they would both be interested in. When I was growing up my sister and I would faithfully watch a Brady Bunch rerun every night - we loved it, LOL. My son is much more intrigued by families and relationships than by fantasy reality shows. For example, he would read Beverly Clearly before a fantasy book. Please let me know your favorites for this age range, even if they don't meet my preferences exactly. We've watched a lot of Phineas and Ferb, but my son has seemed to move on from it. The only show that they watch together right now is Curious George, and although my son will pretend to be too old for it, he doesn't leave the room. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you everyone. I hadn't thought about watching the same reruns that I did as a kid! I am not a young parent so I thought they would seem way too dated, but we'll give it a try. It would be hysterical to watch the Brady Bunch again - I probably know every episode. Thanks again!

On cable we as a family like to watch Undercover Boss, On Netflix me and my kids love to watch Leave It To Beaver and the original Dennis the Menace.. I think my 6 year old may be watching Leave It To Beaver a lil to much because I asked her if she wanted to do something the other day and she answered with "Gee Mom that would be swell" LOL I almost fell over. She has also renamed Eddie Haskell to :"That Eddie Rascal."

If you have ME-TV, Mary Tyler Moore, Dick Van Dyke, and Bob Newhart are on each weeknight and a few Brady Bunches in a row on Sunday mornings. My son loves these old shows, and so do we! He also loves Reba. There are a few spots where mom has to quick turn the channel or explain a few things, but in general the characters are so goofy he really enjoys it.

There are several 80's shows on the Hub. My 6 year old likes "The Brady Bunch" (that one might be Nick) and "The Facts of Life." He watched "The Wonder Years" once, but I'm not sure he was into that. We're thinking of trying "Doogie Houser, MD."

Some (but not all) of the shows on the Family Channel might be good.

I'm not sure if anyone else has mentioned The Waltons but even after all these decades it's still one of my favorite shows. The Hallmark channel airs The Waltons followed by Little House on the Prairie daily :)

My 4 year old boy likes Iron Chef America, American Pickers, Top Shot, America's Got Talent (aka the singing and dancing show), any of the competition shows on the food network with sugar sculptures, cakes, etc. He also really likes the classic cartoons- Felix the Cat, Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, Pink Panther, Tom & Jerry. You do have to keep an eye out for touchy subjects in those old cartoons- some of them can be very violent, occasionally there will be something pretty racist or sexist.

My son is 9 now and he watches all the Dinsey teenager shows - although Phineas and Ferb is still my favorite! My son still likes The Suite Life of Zach and Cody and he likes Jesse - both good family shows on Disney. We also watch a lot of the Food Channel competition shows and the Travel Channel shows, Animal Planet shows, Science and Nature shows. I tried showing him some shows from when I was growing up but he only really liked the Three Stooges. I loved the Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family and the Monkees! Hope this helps.

I agree with some of the other moms about going back to some of the "classics". My kids absolutely loved watching shows I watched as a kid, even the ones in black and white. My son absolutely loved the Andy Griffith Show. I even bought him DVD's of it. My daughter loved "I Love Lucy".

Little House on the Prairie
Leave it to Beaver
The Munsters
The Adams Family
Bewitched
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Mr. Ed
Green Acres
The Beverly Hillbillies

Some Nickelodeon shows my kids liked are:
Doug
Pete, Pete, and Pete
Hey, Arnold!

I don't know what's available on Netflix or Hulu, but you've received some great suggestions!
