I would like to get the boys a PS2 game for Christmas. I am completely lost when it comes to video games other than Tetris and old school arcade type games. I'm looking for suggestions that would be appropriate for a 7 and a 10 year old. Thanks in advance for any ideas/input.

What can I do next?

My son is know 14, and these are the games he liked. These are all E rated games. Spider man 1,Need for Speed Underground, Street Basket Ball, Lego Racers 2, Hotwheels Velocity Maximum Justice, Superman Shadow of Apokolips, Star Wars Racer Revenge, Hotwheels World Race, Smash cars, EA sports NBA Live 2005, EA Sports Madden 2004, and the EYE TOY where the kids can get some exercise too. One is called antigrav is a snow board game, and one that is just called Play. I hope this helps.

J., I am an expert on this since my boys are game fanatics. We have both PS2 and Gamecube. I like them both but the PS2 is nice since you can use it to play cds and dvds also. As for games, they loved racing games at that age mostly. One of their favorites is lego racers. You can build your own car or use one that is already built. My husband even loves the game. Also skateboarding, snowboarding type games. Good luck!

im a bit of a gamer myself and i seem to like more of the childrens games. a good game is starwars lego. there are two of them out now. if they dont already have the first one than get them that one. it will be alot cheeper than the new one. spyro the dragon also has many different ones out but the newest one is great. if you dont mind a bit more shooting ratchet and clank (also with several different ones out) is fun and still pg. monkey ball is fun but they have to work at it to release more areas. hopefully this gives you some help. if you need anymore help just go to a gamestore like gamestop and ask them what they suggest. the employees work there because they like to play video games.

DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION!!! My family absolutelty loves that game. Added bonus I have lost 20 lbs playing it with them!!!! I have 4 girls & 1 ten y.o.step son and my step son loves it just as much as the girls, and when any of the kids have a party it is mostly the boys that play it..Isn't that funny? (I have a good friend that told me the other day that her 19 y.o son still invites friends over to play it. We have had this game for 2 years now. But you have to get 2 player mats. Also I am getting guitar hero two this year for the kids I have been told that is the best also. Good Luck

If your boys are interested in sports, consider Madden or NBA. If they have other games and enjoy them, consider the sequel. Lots of video games have newer versions. At 10 and 7, they will like almost anything. There are a lot of games out there for PS2, I would suggest just browsing and considering their interests.
I myself have boys, as well as a husband who love to game. You'd be amazed at some of the things they learn from the craziest sources!
Happy hunting!

My son loves video games, and he has really liked the Lego Star Wars, and I have read in parent magizines that a really good one.
Make sure that you look on the back of the game for ratings, I didn't even realize that they had this intill I was watching my child play a game I had purchased and it was so violent and gross! It was rated M for mature, those are the worse games, not for small children.
T for Teen can be pretty bad as well, they often swear and can be very violent.
I only buy E for Everyone now, thats safe for children.
Good Luck, hopefully you can learn from my mistake!

Katamari damacy is a very fun game that is a bit older so it costs less. Your guy is timed rolling along collecting things and you have to get your ball big enough to get to the next level. It also has a challenge mode where you can play two players against each other. I enjoy playing Harvest moon. You are a boy who inherits his grandpa's farm in town that is failing. You work each day to raise animals and crops. There are seven mini stories where you have to get to know different people and try different things to save the town.

I have to second Lego Star Wars, my 9 year old son just loves this game. Other than that it depends on what they are interested in. PS2 games are rated, E is for everyone, T is for teens and M for mature. Most of the E games are pretty safe, M for mature really means mature!

Our 8 year old boy loves Jak & Daxter. It is an adventure one where they fight creatures and look for things in a village. He really loves that. He likes Spongebob, and Madagascar too. They are all E.

Hi J. -
One game I cannot recommend enough is Guitar Hero. The player uses a controller that looks like an electric guitar (it comes with the game). My 9 year old absolutely loves it, as does every other kid who comes over to play. What I like best about it is - it does not involve shooting or killing of any kind! Not only that but I believe that kids actually develop some musical awareness and even great coordination which could be transferred to actual guitar playing. It is rather expensive because you have to have the guitar controller, but they just came out with Guitar Hero II, so you might be able to pick up the original version on sale (the only major difference on II is new songs and the ability have 2 'guitarists' play at once).

My son also loves playing the Lego Star Wars game which is much less violent than many of the other games out there. Finally, you can't go wrong with a snowboarding or skateboarding game to fill out the collection as those are usually fairly inexpensive and easy to find used. You don't need a lot of games to start out with as kids usually become interested in figuring out just one game at a time.

I hope you find that useful.
