My kids found their Christmas presents I'd hidden. Ugh.
I have limited funds so I had been collecting them along the way when I saw a fantastic sale.
I will still keep these & give to them but they cannot be from Santa now. Argh.

Where's a clever place to hide Christmas gifts since I have to buy them early.
I do not have a basement or attic.

TIA

You are all so brilliant! Thanks mamas! Love the suitcase idea. Just can't be theirs. For some reason they like playing w/theirs.
Btw, my toddler found them. Inquiring minds want to know.

I have several suitcases and that is where all my items go (unless they are too big) but most of them I can get to fit in all the suitcases. What kid goes through a suitcase?

one year I got a big box and wrapped it up in baby shower wrap and said it was for "X" friend at work. Another year I got a big box and sat it in the bedroom and put blankets in it. I left it there for months. as the holidays get closer I pulled the blankets out and put the gifts in and then covered back up with blankets. still another year we got a new washer. I kept the box and we used it for the gifts.

I have a friend who puts everything in plain sight in her (somewhat messy) garage. She just puts everything in big black garbage bags and lines them up among the other mess of the garage. Her kids would never think to open a gross garbage bag. I used to hide them in big boxes near my husband's tools in the basement. I've also heard of people keeping them in the trunk of their car in garbage bags too.

I always wrap them immediately then put them in large garbage bags and hide them in MY closet under things so NO one not even my hubby knows where they are. He has a hard time keeping things secret--lol

Trunk of your car
Grandparent's or anyone else's house
Work ( you or hubby) - I keep ALL of my gifts in my office! I even have them shipped there!
You have to think outside the box, or in this case, outside the house. They will always find them there. Go to a neighbor's!

These are great suggestions, I've learned some new places. When my kids were younger, it was enough to put them in top shelf in my closet (even I need a step stool to reach). Another spot is the top shelf of my linen closet, it's a nice deep shelve and I can fold some towels in front. My couch also lifts for a storage area and it's too heavy for my kids to lift. I'm impressed that you are ahead of your shopping. Good luck and happy "early" holidays :)

My kids are too little to snoop, but when I was a kid, my mom hid them in our Christmas boxes (the ones that held all of the decorations). My sisters and I used to search the house tlooking for the presents, and we NEVER thought to look into the boxes/bins that held the Christmas decorations. She only revealed her secret when I had kids of my own :)

My SIL takes all of hers to her moms house and puts them in the basement.

I have a basement with a spooky closet my kids NEVER go in...so I hide all my stuff in there.

Otherwise you just have to do your best to try and find a place in your home. Perhaps you have a garage you could put them in?

here is what I have done in the past:

wrapped in empty suitcase’s
wrapped in trash bags
wrapped in huge (clean/new) trash cans
wrapped in large packing boxes
hide them in the kids room (they would never think to look in their own room!)

Maybe the trunk of your car? Do they see when you go in there? I used that spot one year for birthday presents I had been collecting and it worked. I wrapped everything and then put them in bags, so even if he saw inside the trunk, he couldn't see what everything was.

My house.

I seem to be the "go to" for my neighbors to hide Santa gifts and more from their children.

Top shelf in a closet, pantry, disguised of course to look boring.

They get put in the garage in an unmarked cardboard box that something else we ordered came in. We do a lot of our shopping for everyone online so we get boxes all the time from Amazon, Disney Store etc all the time that time of year. We take out the items that are for other people or are things that aren't meant to be presents and leave the rest in the box. Since there is always a pile of uncolapsed boxes in there as well as normal things stored in cardboard boxes they never even care or look.

I usually keep mine at work. Guarenteed the kids won't find them there. This year, I will leave them at my friends house. His kids are grown up and out of the house.

Wow what a valuable thread of great hiding spots! I like the idea of a suitcase. And how clever is the Baby Shower wrap! I hide my stash of goodies in various spots, most of which, sorry, are small:
- inside socks
- inside jean pockets (jeans I rarely wear)
- hanging in the closet on a hanger (with a large dress or coat over it, hiding it)
- inside a boring ol box (Bisquick?) in the pantry - nobody else would ever use the Bisquick but me!
- anywhere by the laundry, as I am the only one who does laundry
- in my "feminine product" area - too embarassed to look by my tampons and pads!

Good luck!

We hid them at the great-grand parents home, in a back closet. They loved watching me wrap her gifts.. Then I would wrap gifts for them to give away..

after they died, I hid them at a neighbors home. They never had children and lived across the street. Wrapped them and had the tags written by different people each year.

Our home is tiny and no place to hide things.. I always purchased special Santa paper..and Gave away the leftover paper, tags etc.. Our daughter was way too observant....

I had this happen to me last Saturday! Santa had just about finished shopping....very frustrating!

When I was a kid, my parents used to have the neighbors store presents in their garages/attics.

I always kept them at my parent's house. Short of a safe there is nowhere in my house they won't find something.

You can still give them from Santa, you just tell them you were holding them for a friend but I guess Santa must have seen how much you wanted them and put them on your list!

Can you get a big box from a store and put the gifts in the box and put on a shelf in the garage or a closet? Maybe hide them at a friend's house?

This is what I did. I wrapped as I was going and Santa didn't wrap at all. Anything that was wrapped my daughter know was from someone in the family. This way I could start early and not worry about her finding anything. If something got unwrapped it was known that it was going back to the store and removed from the wish list. Santa only brought a few things, usually one thing special and three or four inexpensive fun things. He never wrapped anything and he just tossed it and wherever it landed was where it stayed. Santa is very busy you know and he just doesn't have time to make tons of stuff for every kid and then wrap it all and be neat on top of it. Nope Santa's messy and in a hurry. And having just a few things makes hiding places easier. The trunk of my car was my usual go to. Good Luck.

You guys are impressive. If I wrapped the Christmas presents early I would completely forget what they were by Christmas!

Right now I hide themin the garage. We have a fairly decent-sized garage and the side part of it has a bunch of boxes and stuff we should really go through. But it does make for good cover because I put the presents in shopping bags and hide them behind that stuff with an old towel draped over them. I'm pretty sure my daughter never even glances that way in the garage.

Hi Tia-

My mom used to "hide" our gifts in the truck of the car, which sucked for us cuz I was a unwrapper! I drive a mini van so that option is out but maybe it'll work for you?

Good luck!!

Wrapped in a black plastic trash bag and set on the top shelf in the closet or a cabinet. Sometimes I forget what's up there so I keep a little list hidden in a file so I don't over buy.

When I was a kid, my mom told us NOT to look for any presents. If we found them, we didn't get them.

Guess who never looked?

My kids don't look. We put them in plastic bags at the very top of our closet or I have a Rubbermaid bin that is in the garage with presents for birthdays, etc.

My daughter was the one who always wanted to snoop for gifts.
I told both of my kids that if they got in to things and found their gifts, they had to donate them to someone else who was living at the rescue mission or a homeless shelter.

They knew I would do it because we already donated clothing, shoes, toys, and coats, not to mention food.

I hid stuff at a neighbor's house and they hid stuff at mine. We told our kids we had to do that to keep the other kids from snooping. We swore to the kids we didn't know what the gifts were, but they were a surprise and we didn't want to ruin it.

It worked out pretty well. One year, I ordered TV's for my kids and dang if they weren't there when UPS showed up. They couldn't tell from the box what it was, but I told them they were for the other kids. The other dad came and got them and hid them. He played right along that they were for his kids.

They were super surprised when they learned they were for them on Christmas day.

Hiding stuff can be hard.
As my kids got older, they knew to just stay away from certain places. They learned they'd rather be surprised than have to donate their gifts because they just couldn't wait for them.

It worked out well for me.

If you can hide things somewhere that they don't have access to, it's a pretty awesome thing until you can let them know that snooping equals losing out.

My kids knew better than to look in my closets. Christmas Eve, went to bed without a wiggle. If they didn't, there would be nothing out.

Just my opinion.........kids can learn they are better off not looking and snooping and searching.

Best wishes.

My neighbours and I hide each others gifts. Ask a close neighbour or a family member. How about the garage rafters? Or you could wrap the packages right away and keep them in the same hiding place you use now, but they won't know what they are. Don't label who they are for (so they won't be tempted to open the ones for them), but make some kind of mark on the bottom to remind yourself who each package is for.

I always hide them behind our headboard. But not sure if I can get away with that this year since my son found the lil cubby hole we have there.

I'll probably just take them to my moms for a good hiding, or even clear out some room in our shed.

I'll be following the post for other ideas too.

Good luck, Santa! ;0)
