Hello, I stay in Auburn Hills, MI and am looking for a good OB-GYN. I want someone who is supportive during labor and lets me go natural as far as I can, without trying to hurry up the delivery. Would appreciate your suggestions and recommendations. Any area about 10- 15 miles radius from Auburn Hills will be okay for us.eg Rochester hills,Troy, Bloomfield Hills, Royal oak etc.
Secondly, which hospital in the Metro Detroit area do you think gives more personalized care during labor and deliveries and is not an assembly line where deliveries are rushed? Please let me know your opinions and experiences.
Thank you so much !!!
K.

Troy Beaumont is a wonderful hospital. I had my 3 kids there and they have a great OB wing with private rooms and personalized care. As far as an OB/GYN, I highly recommend the ones that I go to - Dr. Stephen Perry, Dr. Betty Chu and Dr. Brian Torok. I think the practice is called Clinton Women's Healthcare. Not super close to you though - they have offices in Clarkston and Utica (M59 and Van Dyke). Good luck!

I go to Dr. Sarvis and Dr. Bartholomew in Bloomfield Hills. I have seen them for 5 years and throughout my pregnancy last spring. They are attentive, knowledgable, and have never rushed me. They both have an excellent compassion for their patients. I delivered at Troy Beaumont and was very happy with the experience. They even have 2 rooms designated ONLY for women who are doing birthing without medication. They have different birthing tools as well as a tub with jets to use during your labor (but they do not offer water births).

I would recommend Providence hospital in Southfield hands down. They have a much lower rate of c-sections than other hospitals. I loved all of my nurses and staff forbith deliveries. I love my obgyn: dr. Annette Greenstein in Beverly Hills. She is great. She listens, is supportive, gives tons of her time and isno joke at the hospital. I had gestational diabetes (and additional complications for second deivery) so I was induced both times andcouldnot use the Alternative Birth Center at providence. I wouldnitrecommend Beaumont in royal oak. I had bad experiences with two different residents and a major communication problem with the time formy sons admission for jaundice (which caused his case to be worse). My sister-in-law and aunt both had horrible e periences there too, but I don't want to scare you toomuch. I wish you ahappyans healthy delivery.
P.s. Don't get to hung up if your delivery doesn't go as planned- the end result is all thatreallly matters. I had to realt learn this when I could have a deivery in the abc.

Hi K.,
A great Dr. in Rochester is Dr. Daniel Greene of Contemporary Ob/Gyn. He delivers out of Crittenton. He is very supportive during birth, I have had much experience with him because I teach HypnoBirthing childbirth education and he is a big proponent of this method. RE: a hospital, no matter what hospital you go to, you need to develop a plan with your Dr. ahead of time and know what you want and don't want, and then use your voice to get what you want. In addition to childbirth education, hiiring a doula would also be a good idea to ensure you have the most tools with you to get you the type of birth you are desiring. You are in control of your birth, never give your power away to someone else thinking they will do it for you! If you have real concerns over the care that you will receive in hospitals, have you considered a homebirth or birthing at the Providence ABC?

Here is Dr. Green's info:
Dr. Daniel Greene, MD, FACOG
Contemporary Obstetrics& Gynecology, PC
1202 East Walton Boulevard
Rochester Hills, MI 48307-6917
(also has Oxford MI location)

Hi K.,
Here is another thought for a good Dr. Dr. Cayle in Shelby Twp (corner of Dequindre and Avon Rd - at the edge of Rochester. He delivers at Beaumont Troy. He respects that a womans body is designed to give birth and also does cranio sacral work.

Dr. Jonathan E. Cayle, MD, FACOG, CST
Cayle Clinic, P.C.
51850 Dequindre Road, Suite 1
Shelby Twp., MI. 48316

Have you thought about having a midwife delivery? I had a midwife out of Metro Partners for Women and she was awesome, she stuck to my delivery plan and was so supportive and just kept telling me to listen to my body. She talked me through the last part of the pushing, told me when to slow my pushing etc to prevent any tearing or episiotomy. I could not have dreamed of a better birthing experience. She never once offered me any kind of drug or intervention and my birth experience was exactly how I wanted it to be. I actually changed from an OB to her when I was 30 weeks pregnant because I was concerned that my Ob was not on the same page as me. Unfortunately my midwife moved to South Carolina but there are lots more out there. The hospital I delivered at was Providence Southfield because they have an alternative birth unit there which is all about natural birthing. I'm guessing this would be too far for you to travel but I know Providence now have the Novi hospital. Maybe they have the same thing there?
Good on you if you can go natural, it is a wonderful experience but not an easy one. It is so worth it though. Good luck!

Henry Ford West Bloomfield is the best for letting you do things a little less strictly. I know they have some midwives working there. One of the girls I work with delivered there (we're labor & delivery nurses at Henry Ford Wyandotte, but she chose there for the less regimented treatment and a midwife). If you look back at the archive issues of the Oakland Press, she was the 1st delivery of this year there, and her midwife's name is mentioned.

Hello! I go to Oakland Macomb Obgyn and I love all of the doctors there. They deliver out of Troy and Royal Oak Beaumont. The mailing address of the office I go to is Rochester Hills, but it is closer to Troy. It is on South Blvd. at M-59 and Dequindre, about 15 minutes from my Rochester home. They also have a Lake Orion office. The doctors are very friendly and kind and you can tell they care about you and your baby. They are not the kind of doctors who are only interested in the "practice." I particularly love Dr. Goymerac, Dr. Love, and Dr. Morgan.
