Good Ob/Gyn for Pregnancy/birth

Hi, I am looking for a good Ob/Gyn. My husband and I want to get pregnant soon, but I am so nervous about finding the right doctor! A bunch of my friends have been pressured into having c-sections for their first babies and I really don't want to have a c-section or be induced unless it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. So, I want to find a doctor who will not pressure me to have a c-section and will be willing to wait for my body to go into labor naturally. I also strongly prefer a female doctor. Right now, I feel like a doctor who delivers at Baylor Dallas or Baylor Garland would be best. I am not sure if there is a big difference between those two hospitals. I really want a gentle, patient doctor who won't get annoyed with my first-time questions!

Thanks for your help!

Elizabeth Stevenson and Maria Reyes at Park Lane & 75 are my doctors. I LOVE THEM! I recommend them to everyone. I had a c-section with my first, who was breech the entire time, BUT it was not a scheduled c/s. She let me wait and 9 days past my due date my water broke and my daughter was born by cesarean 12 hours later -- but she would have let me labor for another 12 hours if I wanted to (I was hoping she would turn at the last minute but after my water broke, her butt settled in). She did the same with a friend of mine -- no scheduled c-section, and instead a c-section on Father's day night. Not convenient to the doctor but what the patient wanted.
My son was born by VBAC 21 months after my daughter (that's a vaginal birth after cesarean) and he was 19 DAYS LATE. Due dates mean nothing to me (my cycle is LONG) and she took that in to consideration. Stevenson is pro-patient and will do what you want. Check her out. ###-###-####.
She delivers at Baylor downtown -- which has the best lactation consultants on the planet! And if you are thinking about going natural, you should hire a doula. That's the best support you can have.

I am a birth doula and have worked with many doctors in the Dallas Area. My best recommendation at Baylor Dallas is The Women's Health Alliance. That practice has a midwife who is fabulous for handling low risk pregnancy's and for women who desire a natural birth. Her name is Cecily Floydd, CNM. There are other female doctors that work out of Baylor Dallas. If you send me an email, I can send them to you. ____@____.com decision is an important one, and you are smart to not take it lightly.

I'm not familiar with those hospitals, but what you can do, is contact your insurance and see what Dr.s take your plan. Then, go to the hospital and interview the nurses, ask them who waits around for natural delivery, who schedules most convenient c-sections/inductions... it's a good way to start a search

Are you open to a midwife? You will not be pressured into a C-section.

Aliza delivers in Allen and McKinney though.
You can have an interview meeting to see what her views are on induction etc.

I went through this same thing when my OB retired back in 2005. My husband and I hadn't started trying for kids yet but I knew I wanted to find the doctor who would be there through my pregnancy sometime in the future. We have been extremely happy with my OB/GYN. I know you said you prefer a female, but I wanted to pass my dr. name on. It is Charles R. Downey with Richardson OB/GYN located off the George Bush Turnpike at Renner. He does deliver at Baylor Garland but also at Richardson Regional (Which I HIGHLY recommend)! He does have a PA (Physician Assistant) who is female and she is actually the one who I saw everytime I went in for check ups until there was an abnormality with my pregnancy and then I started seeing my doctor. She is awesome! Very patient and knowledgeable and would answer questions I didn't even know I had! She is a newer mother as well so it is all pretty new to her and she has great advice. I had been off BC for 2 years and not gotten pregnant yet. After talking with Allison, and getting a few suggestions, I was pregnant in 2 months! He is a single practice so there are other doctors on call but, he was at my delivery even though he was not on call that night. The weekend my daughter came was very long so I will try and make this short...! I went into labor Sat. night about 10:45 pm and my doctor showed up Sunday afternoon. My daughter did not decide to make an appearance until Monday morning at 2:16 am and my dr. was still with me! I had not been dialated AT ALL on my Thursday appt., which was still a week until my due date, and we went ahead and scheduled induction for a week after my due date since appt. are hard to get. But, she decided to go ahead and come that weekend. After about 22 hours she FINALLY decided she would move down far enough for me to start pushing but she was turned sideways so everytime I would push, she would come down a little but then go back up! After about 3 1/2 hours of pushing (with a couple 10 minute breaks) I started begging for a c-section but my doctor and husband kept cheering me on and didn't want to do it. We did end up having to use suction to help her out but it was not by c-section which now I am very happy about!
I know this was a long explanation but I DO love my doctor and his practice. Just in case...his number is ###-###-####. Oh, and I do not get commission for referrals!

Dr. Rachel Kurian and Baylor Dallas are amazing!! I had a completely natural birth there, and didn't feel pressured to do anything I didn't want to. They worked with our plans, and were so professional while still being friendly and helpful! Dr. Kurian works for Women's Health Alliance at Baylor, their website is http://www.wha-docs.com/

I love my Ob/Gyn Dr. Amy Martin on N. Washington Ave only a mile away from Baylor Dallas. She is a great and patient doctor and she supported me all the way with my decision to go for a natural birth with a Doula on my side. She even allowed me to stay home for 8 hours after my water broke (no risk because of the positioning of my little boy) since she know how important that was for me. She shares a practice with 3 other doctors that you all meet before your due date so that you know all on call doctors in case you deliver in the middle of the night.
Good luck!

Hi MD-
I interviewed lots of OBs and I wanted a female also until I met Dr Berry Fleming in Plano. I live in Rowlett so he wasnt exactly local but he is amazing! So gentle and patient and really listens to you and will honor any birthplan you have as long as baby and mommy are safe. His nurse is awesome too! I had preclampsia at 25 weeks and although it was serious he always kept me calm and i felt 100% safe and at ease. My husband wanted me to also have a female OB changed his mind the moment he met him. He delivers @ plano presby.
He is very caring and nurturing and you and baby are always his #1 and no question or concern is silly and he will never make you feel that way. He is also my moms Gyn and she had breast cancer last year and he was amazing to her and a great family support! Good luck!

Dr. Elizabeth Stevenson at Park Lane OB/Gyn is wonderful and she delivered my baby at Baylor Dallas. Her website is http://www.parklaneobgyn.com/
She and her partner Dr. Maria Reyes are both pro natural birth, and neither blinked an eye at my birth plan (I did Hypnobirthing). Dr. Stevenson never pressured me into anything and was kind and patient. I recommend her to all my friends.
Good luck!

My ob/gyn delivers at Baylor Dallas, and she's phenomenal. Dr Lauren Monti delivered both of our children, and patiently answered my many questions. She also got me through the premature birth of our son with the strength and grace that I needed. She treats her patients as individuals and spends as much time as you need answering questions. As a bonus, she has an ultrasound machine in her office, so you get to see the wee one at every visit. Good luck!
