My 10 year old and I are taking a last minute trip to St. Louis. We are going to be in downtown St. Louis, and I wondered if there was a good (not too expensive) place to have lunch. I don't really want to go to a fast food chain I can go to at home, so I'm hoping someone might know a good local place.
ETA - So we are not staying in St. Louis at all. We'll just be there for the day. I'll look on Trip Advisor, but the reason I posted was to see if any locals had suggestions or just if anyone who had been there before knew of something that might not be known to most "tourists."
We live about 2 hours from St. Louis and usually eat on the Illinois side before going to a game or show (because it's usually cheaper). So we were just looking for something different.
Anyone have a suggestion?

Years ago - like 9 years - that's how long it's been since I've been to St. Louis. There was a HOLE IN THE WALL diner between the Hilton and the Convention Center - it's called Chili Mac's - 510 Pine Street, St. Louis.
I hope it's still as good as it was 9 years ago!!

Cardinals fans eat at Fox Sports Midwest Live (recommend their huge yummy salads) or Cardinals Nation at Ball Park Village :-).

ETA: I will second St. Charles as a cool place to visit/eat. Not sure if you are familiar (being so close to border), but it has a lot of cool shops and they kept many of the buildings/roads as original as they can from 1800’s. A lot of people like Lewis and Clark’s. I thought it was just ok, but the rest of my family liked it. They just opened up a new BBQ joint in February.......OMG....it smelled delicious! Reasonably priced, casual. Had we not just had breakfast, we would have been first in line by it smelled so good!
Also, that salad at FSML is so good that even my 13 year old ordered it (as did my husband and myself, LOL).

Fitz's restaurant is great for a burger and shake.
Gus's Pretzel's is a classic stop. Try the brat wrapped in a pretzel. First it is weird to think about but after tasting.... that is the only way to ever eat a warm pretzel.

There are so many great restaurants in the area. There are great restaurants within a short drive as well, in St. Charles, Chesterfield, Fenton. So it really depends. GoogleMaps is great for looking around "Near Me".
My family favorites are O'Charlie's and Citizen Kane's (in Kirkwood). Also And the road side fundraising BBQ stands are irresistible on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.
