Good Potty Seat for Elongated Toilet Bowl

Hey moms. I'm about to enter the wonderful world of potty training with my little boy. I'm having trouble finding a potty seat (the kind you fit into the toilet) that fits well on an elongated bowl toilet. I have one that is for a standard bowl, but it doesn't fit tightly and slides back and forth, which leaves my little one feeling unstable. Has anyone found a good potty seat for an elongated bowl?

What can I do next?

We had this problem too! We never found a seat that fit correctly but a friend of mine suggested sitting him backwards on the toilet. It worked great because then he could hop up there instead of trying to back-up onto the seat and since the toilet seat was more narrow in the front it was a perfect fit for his little toosh. If you decide to try it just remember to have him lean slightly forward so the stream of pee goes into the toilet. Hope this helps!

I know one mama mentioned the potty with the attached ladder...the only problem I found with that is it doesn't feel very sturdy and my boy wouldn't use it b/c he thought it was going to fall. I bought the BabyBjorn Toilet Trainer Potty Seat it has an adjustable know that you turn so it fits any kind of toilet. I really like that it fits and does not slide. It is not cushioned though. Doesn't bother me, but I just wanted to let you know that.

We have elongated toilets and use the Sassy brand toilet seat that we bought from Target. It has a shield around the underside to keep pee from spraying out between the seat and porcelein. It also has adjustable handles. It fits pretty good but all of them slide around a little. We started with a potty chair and didn't use the toilet insert until after he was already trained.

Hi K.,

I love the Baby Bjorn potty seat. It has an adjustable "dial" that allows the seat to fit securely to any adult-size toilet. The opening is large enough that my son is comfortable and it is easy for him to got potty and not be nervous. I bought it at Babies R Us. It is a bit pricey ($30) but it will last. We just got back from our vacation flying from NC to UT and it travels well too. It will fit in your diaper bag. I can't say enough great about it. I personally think the one-time more expensive price is better than going the cheap route and having to buy more than one. I went that way originally and now I wish I had just spent a little more. Anyway, good luck!

We never could find one that fit, even the ones that say they fit elongated seats didn't work. We finally found the potty pal seat (we ended up with a different brand though, Kohlar, but same design and it works great). Anyway, it is a 3 piece seat. The bottom seat is for adults, the middle/top seat is for small children, and then the lid. Our 4-year-old has no problems getting the seat he needs and it just raises up like the lid out of the way for adults to use the regular seat.

We like the Kohlar because it has quiet close and if the seat is dropped, it doesn't slam on fingers either. The lid isn't quiet close on its own, but it is very lightweight and wouldn't hurt tiny fingers.

I found and got to use a seat called "Flip and Flush" for 2 of my 4 kids. It is great. It connects to your seat easily with tabs provided and a screwdriver. Very easy to use. When it is time for them to go they can pull the seat down like you would the lid. Use the bathroom. Stand and then flush. It is easy to clean because it is plastic and light weight so it wont pinch fingers. Also you dont have to look for a place to stash the seat when not in use. I got my off Ebay for $10.00. That included shipping. Now that was about 4 yrs ago so I dont know what they are running now.

Don't know about the elongated toilet seat, but I'd really recommend getting a separate little potty chair for training. It gives them their 'own' toilet and you can even use the big one while they use the little one to help them get 'into it'. I also think it's a good idea to have boys to (mostly) pee sitting down. My husband does this at home, and it is SO VERY nice to NEVER have the seat left up or wet! There's nothing 'feminine' about sitting down, and they can 'pee standing up' when they're with Dad or other guys.
