Good Samaritan Vs. St. Joseph's Hospital?

I am due to deliver my second child in December, and my doctor delivers at either Good Sam or St. Joe's. What have people's experiences been? According to my doctor, they're the same, except one of them has better parking.

I had a horrible experience with an unwanted inducement and subsequent C-section last time, and bad experiences with nurses and staff that didn't listen and were rude and unhelpful. I delivered at Banner Thunderbird before. I am trying for a natural VBAC this time. What have your experiences been at St. Joseph's and Good Samaritan?

Thank you!

What can I do next?

Both of my children were delivered at St. Joe's. I had a wonderful time both experiences. I don't know any thing about Good Sam, but Joe's was awesome! Great staff....great rooms....just an all around fantastic experience. I had a complicated first delivery and if it had not been for the quick thinking staff I would have probably died. St. Joes has the complete package.

I delivered triplets at Good sam, with Dr Elliot, via CSection. Good sam is the way to go. Labor and Delivery is one of the areas of the hospital that has been remodeled recently, and I love the staff. Cannot think of a bad experience there.

I have had 3 live births and they helped me with my miscarriages too at Good Samaritan (It is my hospital of choice.)
I had 2 vaginal births and one C-section birth... vaginal births ... I loved having my baby near me at all times... then the c-section birth ... I had my son whom needed to be in NICU they are wonderful support as well as my own complications.
So I highly recommend them.

I had all three of my children at St. Joseph's child birthing center and loved it! I had the same nurses each time and they were amazing. My youngest is 19 years old, but if they still have that and it's an option for you I would highly recommend it.

Congratulations! I have delivered at both. The first time I was taken by ambulance to St. Joe's and was put out to have an emergency c-section, so I don't know much about labor and deliver floor prior to the baby being born. The second time I was having a VBAC so I had to go to Good Sam. I liked the hospital staff more at Good Sam however, the one thing I did not like was there were a lot of babies born that day and I had to share a room for the 1st day and half also at the time they didn't have any type of newborn bracelet security (That was over 2 yrs ago so I don't know if they do now.)At St. Joe's they have the hospital bracelet that an alarm would go off when the baby got near an exit. My personal experience I preferred Good Sam over St Joe's but that was over 4yrs and 2 yrs ago so I don't know how much has changed since then.

i would go for st joes!! i beleive they are the only reason my son is alive today....i went into labor at 33wks &2 days and was as banner desert and because my son had hydrops they didnt give me any hope of him surviving. then by an act of god they realized i wasnt on their coverage, so sent me to st joes where not only did the drs give me hope but they saved my sons life!!

My son was delivered at Good Sam. It was a nice experience, the nurses can be a little forward. The security is good, I remember that, and the night nurses were the best. =)~ Overall, I thought the experience was pretty darn good.

I am having a little girl that has spina bifida. Dr. Elliot, the specialist I am seeing, insists that Good Sam is the best. He had his kiddos deliver there and swears by it! Good luck! Oh, and I would recommend writing a birth plan to help things go your way :).

I never delivered at Good Sam But I did have a good experience at the ST Joe's NICU. My daughter was delivered at Arrowhead and had complications. They told me they were going to have to send her to another hospital that could take care of her problems and they sent us to St Joes. But Like someone said before Good Sam now has the PCH NICU there and it is brand new so they are supposed to be state of the art (the Architectural firm I work for designed and oversaw the construction, but we have also done work for SJH)

I had a c-section at Good Sam and loved the staff. We were there 3 days and the nurses were wonderful. They were wonderful with my daughter and provided a very high level of care for both of us. I highly recommend Good Sam.

Good luck and congrats.

I delievered at St. Joseph's about over 4 years ago and for the most part it was a good expierence. One thing to consider is that it is a Catholic Hospital so sometimes things get complicated with what doctors can and can't do from what I was told. Like if you want to have your tubes tide while they are doing the C-section the doctor can't do that unless it is medically needed. I had really great nurses in labor and delivery but the nurses afterwards were not as great. Anyway I think you should take a tour of both hospitials if you have the time but my personal opinion would be for Good Sam. My sister in law delivered there and she said she really liked it.

I personally had a horrible experience at saint joe's. I had the choice of good sam or saint joes & had heard such good things about saint joe's. I would never go there again and was extremely dissapointed in the staff and procedures that occured to me while I was there. If you want more info, you can message me.

Hi J.-

I delivered at Good Sam two and a half years ago. I ended up in the hospital a week before delivery due to complications and had my daughter one month early. Am I glad I was at Good Sam! It is a no frills hospital, no cushy rooms, fancy food, etc., but as far as care goes, I feel that I got the best. The nurses and doctors took great care of me during my stay and they took very good care of my daughter once she was born. I was also comforted by the fact that they have one of the best NICU's in the country as part of their facility. I didn't need to use it, but it sure was nice to know that it was there in case we did.

I don't know much about St. Joe's except that my youngest brother was air evacuated from Prescott to St. Joe's back in the early 70's and they saved his life. I have never heard anything bad about the hospital. It may be stellar as well.

All I can do is tell you from personal experience, that the care at Good Sam is superb!

Good luck in your decision making and with your delivery.

Hi J.,

Personally, i had a horrible experience at Good Sam's. The nurses in the the labor and delivery were good, however the after care was horrible. I had a C-Section and when i got to my room i vomited on myself and sheets, i was there 2 days and the nurses never changed my sheets after asking over and over. I have always heard great things about St. Joes.

Good luck!!

I had a C-section at Good Sam and they were wonderful. Friendly staff who took great care of us. Strong security for parents/child, Phx Children's on site, great cafeteria. Excellent care for us, my husband was able to stay in the room, very clean, we were there for a week and it was a very good experience. Good luck!
